Publisher's Summary

Dr. Priscilla Hackling finds herself thrown back into the murder investigation of her fiancé, Trey Whittington. While she was a suspect three years ago, she's now working with the police to find the murderer, Egyptian artifact trafficker Zarka El-Din.

During a sting operation in Siwa, she and Agent Donnie Barnes are drawn to each other, but Priscilla, overcome by personal ghosts from her past, decides a relationship isn't possible.

Priscilla realizes she's the bait in the ruse and uncovers others involved with El-Din. Will she and Donnie reconcile and unravel the reason behind Trey's death before El-Din kills her, too?

The tempering agent

Any additional comments?

The author did an excellent job with The Tempering Agent. The experience was much like watching a suspense movie. Three years after the murder of Priscilla’s finance, she met Donnie. They instantly connected, but all did not go well. The story takes place in Egypt amid historical digs to uncover ancient artifacts.

Overtly Christian

The story was choppy but the plot was there. Priscilla is used as bait for catching the person who murdered her fiancé three years ago. The narrator wasn’t bad but the accents weren’t the greatest. The overt Christian approaches throughout the book, while good intentioned, were off putting in that I was drawn to this book because I love archeology (the tidbits about various minerals at the beginning of each chapter were cool), not because I wanted to be preached to about “giving/releasing things to God” “trusting God’s plan” along with talks of faith and bible verses and stories mingled with history. The overt Christian approach took up close to 1/3 of the whole book.

The cheesy rushed attraction/romance came off a bit fake-hallmark.

Cains did a good job on making things suspenseful.
Parents: the language is clean, there’s no sex/nudity, just kissing.

Will the pursuit of justice cost them everything?

Around the time most girls wanted to become fashion designers I wanted to be an archaeologist. And that's what really attracted me to The Tempering Agent, the heroine is an archaeologist in Egypt. Talk about some amazing history and a totally exotic location! Toss in plenty of suspense and romance and you get a book that I wanted to read.

As a rockhound myself, I think my absolute favorite part of The Tempering Agent is how, author Victoria Pitts Caine chose to head each chapter with some great tidbits of information on gemstones and metals, all related to one key artifact in the story.

I first read this book a couple of years ago in print, and, with everything going on in the world right now I have plenty of time on my hands, so when I got my chance at it in audiobook I jumped at it. The sound and production quality were very good and the narrator had an easy to listen to voice, but, and this is my only negative, the narrator's attempts at English and Egyptian accents were not the best.

Whether in print or in audio Victoria Pitts Caine delivers a simple, easy reading or listenening, story packed with danger, intrigue, romance, and betrayal. It's also the story of a girl trying to find her way through grief and back into a life of faith and love.

I enjoyed my little jaunt into Egypt and the thrilling world of archaeology and antiquities...

Good Plot

Priscilla has an unfortunate past, that haunts her, losing a loved one.
Egyptian artifacts and El-Din. she is working with Donnie to find the killer. Who else is involved with El- Din. Good series with a touch of Egypt. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

A really great story,

I really enjoyed this book that revolves around archeology in the Cairo region of Egypt. The characters were very good and I liked getting to know them . This story is fast paced with lots of interesting things happening at once. I would enjoy more books by this author and narrator.
