Publisher's summary

The Tao of Seneca (volumes 1-3) is an introduction to Stoic philosophy through the words of Seneca. If you study Seneca, you'll be in good company. He was popular with the educated elite of the Greco-Roman Empire, but Thomas Jefferson also had Seneca on his bedside table. Thought leaders in Silicon Valley tout the benefits of Stoicism, and NFL management, coaches, and players alike - from teams such as the Patriots and Seahawks - have embraced it because the principles make them better competitors. Stoicism is a no-nonsense philosophical system designed to produce dramatic real-world effects. Think of it as an ideal operating system for thriving in high-stress environments. This is your guide.

practical and useful

Very good and unique. Filled with practical, useful wisdom. Highly recomended.
However, a few of the letters were filled with a bit to much irrelevant writings is my opinion. perhaps it did serve well although by setting one up for the coming messanges.
in any case, definetly worth your time.
Thank you Tim!

Grounding and Timeless Content

Would you listen to The Tao of Seneca again? Why?

Yes, I listen to a few minutes of Seneca or Marcus Aureleus each morning while out walking and having coffee - a great way to start each day with 5-15 minutes of listening to one of the great Stoics. I suggest nibbling away at the Tao of Seneca (1-3) mixed in with your other books as its a bit heavy to listen to straight through.

The PDF is free from his website.

I bought the audio book as a proxy to pay for this valuable work. It's a great read.

Poor narration, it sounds very forced/put on

Poor narration, it sounds very forced/put on, as if it is a young person trying to sound old/dignified. Get the James Cameron Stewart version of Seneca's timeless works

Pretty basic stuff.

The book is pretty basic “go-getter” type guru advice from the mid to late 2000s, delivered with a bunch of folklore and historic narratives for examples. It reads like a college essay but in a more casual style.

It may be great read for someone in their 20s who’s just starting off. To me, it just felt like repackaged advice I’ve heard a lot elsewhere without the long winded examples that I didn’t really find interesting.

The author shouldn’t have read his own work, He sounds really young, and I know I’m biased, but it sounds like you’re taking a course taught by a high school kid, which to me detracts from the experience.

Good topic ruined by an awful narrator

The narrator for this book was absolutely terrible. It didn't even feel like he was reading in sentences.

example: Its like. he is just. pronouncing words. as they. appear. in front of him.
