Disclaimer: This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. This series had me on my toes throughout, it was such an enjoyable series. It was a very interesting story that kept me second guessing, thinking, and questioning the motives of the characters even when I was not listening. I love the world that Greg created, as well as all the characters, and felt them deeply. The main character was particularly intriguing. I also really like the way the author writes, it's very fresh, lightly humored and his way of describing the places brought very clear visuals. Will definitely revisit this series in the future. Narration by Tucker McDougall was excellent. I loved how he brings the character to live, and the way he represented the different characters is wonderful and really made me feel and relate to them greatly. Thank you, it was a very good listen.

Really enjoyed this detective mystery series set in a future Earth where Synthetic people known as Synth’s are common and prejudice is rampant on both sides.
This is a three story set that makes for an excellent value on Audible.
Good writing and characters.
Good narration added to the story with character differentiation and accent’s to go with them.
Highly recommend this audiobook.

I really enjoyed this story. A lot of action, adventure, and a little romance. The story flowed, and it wasn't hard to keep up. Although the narrator did a wonderful job. With the character being a big African American man. I imagined him with a deeper voice lol

Amazing story

The Synth Crisis Collection promised a thrilling dive into a futuristic world grappling with AI and crime, but ultimately delivered three volumes of flat exposition and uninspired pacing. While the premise of advanced synthetic humans (Synths) causing societal upheaval is intriguing, the execution is hampered by a frustrating lack of depth in its characters, a reliance on dry humor, and dialogue that feels more functional than engaging.
💀 No Pulse in the Characters
The most significant failing of this collection is the complete absence of compelling character development. The protagonists—a motley crew of investigators and mercenaries—read like placeholder models in a video game rather than fully realized people. We are told about their past trauma or unique skills, but we rarely see it translated into genuine, complex decision-making or emotional weight.
Their motivations remain paper-thin, leaving the reader with no investment in their success or failure. When tragedy strikes (as it often does in crime thrillers), the emotional resonance is zero, because the characters themselves seem to barely react. It’s a classic case of telling, not showing, resulting in a central cast that is instantly forgettable.
😴 Dry and Unfunny Dialogue
The attempt at injecting levity through humor consistently falls flat. The collection is peppered with sarcastic quips and deadpan remarks that seem designed to lighten the grim atmosphere, but instead feel out of place and forced.
The dry, almost technical dialogue compounds this issue. Conversations frequently devolve into clunky information dumps, which are necessary to move the plot from point A to point B, but lack the natural flow and tension expected in a high-stakes crime thriller. The characters speak at each other, utilizing jargon and exposition, rather than to each other with genuine wit or emotional subtext. This makes for a reading experience that is less "thriller" and more "technical manual."
💤 Conclusion: A Boring Book
Despite the cool, dark green and black aesthetic of the setting and the promise of high-octane action, the narrative’s energy is quickly sapped by its dull execution. The Synth Crisis Collection is a disappointing read that sacrifices necessary character work and engaging interaction for a sterile, plot-driven march toward an inevitable conclusion. If you're looking for a futuristic crime story with heart, humor, and depth, I suggest looking elsewhere.
