Publisher's summary

Billy knew this would be no ordinary training course, and he would need all his reflexes and skills to get past it. This training course was designed to test his skills to the limit, and he had to pass it. It was the only way he would be able to return home and exact justice.

This one thought and the painful memories that preceded it would have to be enough for Billy to carry him through the grueling course. Billy gritted his teeth and focused on the task at hand.

He had to make it this time. He couldn't fail anymore.

Bullets and blades!

Law has outdone himself here. This felt a lot like the old show Kung Fu, but with a Japanese flair rather than Chinese. This is probably my favorite of his so far. It is like the swift strike of a sword or the quick draw of a gun, either way it ends you. Law is proficient in crafting tales that go a long way in the short span of an hour.

The narration by Corley is great!

Western Adventure

A tangled tale of intrigue, action, and adventure with a battle-scarred hero who definitely rises to the challenge. The clever plot is firmly conceived and crisp writing makes this a terrific story, told terrifically. Narration by Brooks Corley was spot on.

Reminds Me of Louis L'Amour

This was a pleasant short story about the old west in the vein of Louis L’Amour’s westerns. The central plot revolves around a young man’s quest for justice and his need to grow up first if he’s to obtain it. Being a western of the classic variety, his quest for justice is of the eye-for-an-eye sort, but, true to the great western writers it is also “justice” not simply vengeance.

Law’s twist to make the genre his own is his decision to add an eastern element. The villain is a Japanese man and to defeat him, the hero has to learn something of the Japanese culture and fighting style. I would have liked to see this emphasized even more as it is the most unique aspect of the story.

If you’re looking for a quick and enjoyable story set in the old west, I think this one will please you.

It's a wonderful audiobook.

The Sword and the Gun" is a thrilling adventure novel that transports the listener to a bygone era of samurais and cowboys. The author, weaving a tale of action, honor, and betrayal, brings together two unlikely heroes - a samurai and a cowboy - on a mission to avenge their loved ones.

The characters are well-developed, each with a unique personality and backstory that adds depth to the narrative. The descriptions of the landscapes and battle scenes are vivid and detailed, transporting the listener to the heart of the action. The pacing is excellent, keeping the reader engaged and invested in the story.
