Publisher's summary

When seven murder victims are found in a small town, the homicide investigation shakes a small-town sheriff to her core in James Patterson's tense thriller.

Once a luxurious Southern getaway on a rustic lake, then reduced to a dilapidated crash pad, the Summer House is now the grisly scene of a nighttime mass murder. Eyewitnesses point to four Army Rangers - known as the Night Ninjas - recently returned from Afghanistan.

To ensure that justice is done, the Army sends Major Jeremiah Cook, a veteran and former NYPD cop, to investigate. But the major and his elite team arrive in sweltering Georgia with no idea their grim jobs will be made exponentially more challenging by local law enforcement, who resists the Army's intrusion and stonewall them at every turn.

As Cook and his squad struggle to uncover the truth behind the condemning evidence, the pieces just won't fit - and forces are rallying to make certain damning secrets die alongside the victims in the murder house. With his own people in the cross-hairs, Cook takes a desperate gamble to find answers - even if it means returning to a hell of his own worst nightmares....

Took a chance...

Preamble : deliberately mispronouncing surnames is just ignorant ( Du Bois )... the exaggerated berating of the press (for Trump Georgians freedom of the press is also in the constitution ) got old quickly . That’s my only small peeve with the listen . The narrator was aces . I mean I’ve heard a lot of books narrated and he is excellent .
The scene of the story is right out of today’s headlines , Trump Georgia . That is scary enough . The storyline is really enthralling . It kept me irritated and up way too long with the frustration of the CID investigators . That is also a tribute to the narration . IMO, definitely worth the credit and listen . I was so impressed I just purchased “the First Lady “ .

Summer House, perfect summer read

It's not the best story, and a lot of characters are quite cliché, but I enjoyed it anyway. The narrator is fantastic.

mostly great

A bit put off by the unprofessional thoughts towards the character Connie, from her male co-workers. Unnecessary sexual content, making the men seem less than they should be. Did not add to the story in any way.

Good Read, More of a misterey then thirrer.

The beginning seems to be the only action. The rest is more of a mystery.

Cussing

Don’t need to use God’s name in vain!, it takes away from an amazing book.

Unexpected twists and turns around every corner!

The Summer House gave me every ounce of shock and struggle that I was craving. You constantly think the main characters are going to fail. Definitely a "page turner."
