Publisher's Summary

Remember that car that passed you near midnight on Route 66, doing 105 with its lights off? You wondered where it was going so quickly on that dark, dusty stretch of road, motor roaring, the driver glancing out the window as he blew by.

You just saw the founder of the Suicide Motor Club. Be grateful his brake lights never flashed. Be grateful his car was already full.

They roam America, littering the highways with smashed cars and bled-out bodies, a gruesome reflection of the unsettled '60s. But to anyone unlucky enough to meet them in the lonely hours of the night, they're just a blurry memory. That is, to all but one....

Two years ago, they left a witness in the mangled wreck of her family car, her husband dead, her son taken. She remembers their awful faces, despite their tricks and glamours. And she's coming for them - her thirst for vengeance even more powerful than their hunger for blood. On the deserted highways of America, the hunters are about to become the hunted....

wonderfully sinister

The action scenes in this book are beyond compare. I've really enjoyed hearing the author read his last two works.

Another Christopher Buehlman Classic!

Christopher Buehlman does an odd thing with his "horror" books, he makes it more about the story then the scares or the gruesome imagery. That is why his books are in a class above all others in the genre. And fans of his past works should keep an ear open for some amazing Easter eggs to a few of his other books. Suicide Motor Club is fantastic, and like all of Buehlman's other work the characters, setting, and dialogue are superb. He truly makes you feel like you are driving along these old country highways being tormented by the SMC!

So-so

I thought this audiobook was just okay. I loved "The lesser dead", and bought this after. However, it was harder for me to get into. I tried listening several months ago, and just sat it aside. Recently I came back to it again, and listened straight through as I ran errands. Truthfully I'm unsure that I would have made it through had it not been for Clayton who was brought up in The Lesser Dead. I really like the author's narration, and his character voices are fun, yet not over the top. Also, I enjoyed how the vampires were wrote. I like the individual back story of each. The personalities are interesting as well. What I did not like though, were Jude's parts of the story. I didn't particularly care for her, and many parts of the first two thirds of the story revolving around her just seemed to drag on for me. I just really didn't care what happened to her.

Amazing performance and characterization

For a novel featuring the undead all the characters are full of life, with amazing consistency in tone for dialog. The narration drives this home with an expert delivery. If you enjoy characters that feel like people, and don’t mind getting upset when bad things happen to them, then you will enjoy this book immensely.

Another fantastic story by Buehlman

This story was a gripping page turner from start to finish. Christopher Buehlman did an excellent job narrating this grisly tale. Beautifully written, it sucks in the reader setting a colorful scene to captivate and horrify. I have all of Buehlman's books and have enjoyed them all.

Finally, a good horror story!

This was a pretty good story. I could listen to Luther all day. Great performance! Can't believe I'm just finding out about the author, but already started on a 2nd Buehlman book.

Great Vampire tale

A prequel of sorts to The Lesser Dead. while not as compelling...or chilling...as that tale it was a damn fine tale.
