Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Harlan Coben delivers his most shocking thriller yet, proving that a well-placed lie can help build a wonderful life - and a secret has the same explosive power to destroy it.

The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar or a parking lot or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world.

Adam Price has a lot to lose: a comfortable marriage to a beautiful woman, two wonderful sons, and all the trappings of the American dream: a big house, a good job, a seemingly perfect life.

Then he runs into the Stranger. When he learns a devastating secret about his wife, Corinne, he confronts her, and the mirage of perfection disappears as if it never existed at all. Soon Adam finds himself tangled in something far darker than even Corinne's deception and realizes that if he doesn't make exactly the right moves, the conspiracy he's stumbled into will not only ruin lives - it will end them.

Kept me hanging, but inevitable letdown.

It was okay. I was disappointed with the ending. It would build up my curiosity and then go a different direction.

Not "Gone Girl" but held my interest

I suspect we'll have a rash of these books sine "Gone Girl" was so well received and don't expect them to measure up but this certainly was good and worth my time..

You won't be disappointed. It truly deserves a 5 star rating.

I liked the fast pace, the sarcastic humor and a book that has a different
Theme. I know you'll like it. This is my second book by Mr. Corben and I will be reading all of them.

Really good story, great performance

I’m not gonna spoil this book by giving it the full review it deserves. I feel it wouldn’t be fair to reveal what’s needed to truly help potential readers understand why to read this novel without giving away too much.

What I can say is that Coben returns to his usual generalized themes albeit packaged in a very different style this time. Also, you’re gonna have to actively listen or quickly lose many plot points necessary to understand the climatic chapters. Maybe the biggest departure of The Stranger all was the complete lack of that trademark Coben process cheese that can be witty and funny at times but annoying as hell in some novels. Best of all I cannot recall a single instance of characters “making love” (who says that? It must be an annoying over 50 antiquated term or NJ thing) and seldom can I remember characters constantly “frowning” as they do in most Coben books. All in all it’s a departure, more of the same and a well written story.

Lastly, Newbern’s performance was masterful. Very close to as good as Scott Brick and slightly better than Steven Weber. It’s definitely worth a listen.
