The Story of Briar is a historical fiction that is a spectacular coming-of-age story. This unforgiving story takes place in rural East Texas and focuses on historical accuracy for that period of time. In the closing days of Briar’s life, she tells the story of her life to her only living relative, her grandson, Russell. A history of Russell’s family is unfolded before him, which he never saw coming. These revelations depict the poverty of Briar’s family when they were young. The criticism she faced as being a Tom Boy. The hardships of the Great Depression, an approaching war, a rough life growing up on a farm, and family tragedies all encompass the life of Briar. All gravitating to a place comfortable for Briar, her family land where the creek runs through the pines along the trail by their house. That is her refuge. It is the Story of Briar.

As I sit and listen to "The Story of Briar," it makes my mind wander to different times of my life growing up with my siblings. It's like I'm watching a movie from my past, but with my ears and mind. The story literally takes me on a journey back in time. It places me in similar situations relating to my childhood as well but at a different time in life. This is one of the most fascinating books I've ever read and/or listened to. I could not put it down. I had to keep wanting more as the story went on so I could find out what happened next. Although I had already read the book, the audio version literally drew me in wanting more. I was very pleased with the production of this audio book and would recommend it to anyone that wants a good listen. I think I would personally give this book 6 stars if it were possible.
Thank you once again Ian Griffin for this experience! It has been a pleasure listening and reading all of your books. I'm looking forward to many more in the future. 🌟🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
