The incredible conclusion to the record-breaking triple Hugo award-winning trilogy that began with the The Fifth Season.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women.

Essun has inherited the phenomenal power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every outcast child can grow up safe.

For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

Difficult and amazing

A unique story - trilogy - with a world and beings both so like us yet so unlike us. Somewhat mesmerising.

My first audio book experience. Wonderfully read and interpreted.

Loved fifth season but not the sequels as much

This final part I felt a little disappointed about. There was not much going on in this book. Found myself mostly wanting it to end since I've come this far and can't Not finish it

Best one of the series.

Lots and lots of small breadcrumbs have been laid out in the 1st and 2nd one, on which this books plot revolves.
Same vibe and depth as the previous books, but better.

Disappointing journey

While an unusual method of storytelling the 1st book promised so much but the latter 2 books, especially the last one, disappointed as a whole. Pointless character building to rapidly kill off characters will little or no context, a rushed explanation to the key background event and a wholly unsatisfying conclusion that felt rushed.
As a reader you always want to give the storyteller the benefit of the doubt and complete the story journey but I felt this conclusion wasn't really thought out and struggled to engage to finish the book.

Reading This Trilogy is a Transformative Experience

The depth of narrative is equaled by the nuances of character psychology. The Broken Earth is a poem of trauma, sacrifice, and the transformative alchemy of survival. Completing this trilogy is ranked among my most satisfying experiences of some five decades.

Great story but for some reason did not "flow"

I usually "gulp" these books but this one surprisingly took some time to finish. Nevertheless it is still definitely a good book

Expected a lot more after the first two parts

Endless musings and rather childish descriptions trying to describe a distant past. Trilogy going out with a snore.

Top level story telling.

N K Jemisin's characters are complex and emotionally raw. The epic storyline reaches raw emotional depths rare in such fantasy series.
The literary mastery of this series puts Jemisin on a level with the likes of Ursula LeGuin, Doris Lessing and Octavia E Butler. I am eagerly awaiting her next work.
The narrator did an excellent job on almost all of the characters, though Shaffa's accent slipped and slid somewhat between Scottish and other Rural British accents, it wasn't overwhelmingly distracting. Her voice and delivery was so delightfully smooth that it was a pleasure to listen to.

A great series

I found this series almost by chance, while looking for a book to listen to on a long business trip. And what a find it was! A very innovative setting, characters I immediately feel in love with, and am innovative choice of second person narrator. Highly recommended!
