Publisher's Summary
The Steps: 12 Secrets to Raising Happy and Successful Kids is the ultimate parenting guide, all based on the most recent scientific discoveries but with a twist: It is narrated in a fictional format and is, thus, easier to understand and much more fun.
With this audiobook, you will:
- Learn the 12 steps to raising happy and successful kids
- Understand the value of communication and connection from an early age
- Develop your children's values, deliberate practice, and growth mind-set
What’s in it for you (and your kids)?
Follow the story of Estela, a successful journalist, who encounters a young boy who knows how to read better than most adults.
Intrigued with the exceptional ability of the boy, she finds out that he attends the Awake Clinic, where the renowned neuroscientist Dr. Michael Jansen works.
There, Estela finds out about "the steps", an innovative protocol, based on the recent advances of science and psychology. The protocol targets the development of communication and language of the child, early reading, creativity, self-control, discipline, grit, and values, among others, to give them the right tools to promote the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors of babies, children, and adolescents.
Dr. Michael Jansen decides to share with Estela and her readers the 12 steps from the protocol. In the meantime, she finds out about her pregnancy. What better time to check if the steps really work?
This thinly veiled story will give you a first-row seat to 12 game-changing parenting lessons. By the end of this informative parenting audiobook, you will be able to:
- Communicate better with your child which in turn will build an iron-clad relationship
- Promote focus, creativity, and self-control which will help to create a balanced young adult

Must read for new parents
This audiobook goes far beyond the baby. It contains so much good information on the best ways to develop your children and support them, things to do and what to avoid (to not have a fixed mindset), and the research fits well with the story of Estela. It is powerful. I cried when Victor left her. And I was very happy when Sophia spoke her first words. Enchanted!
If you wonder (as I did) what the steps are, listen to the book. And be amazed as I was.

I love when the real book begins (after the first
This audiobook is unbelievable! I read a lot of child psychology and I am quite skeptical about these types of audiobooks. I hate "how to parent"-- I think every parent has their own style. But was a great surprise to listen to this book. The authors are very open-minded. This audiobook IS different! The real audiobook starts with after chapter 3 (the first step)-- skip the pregnant tips. The first step focuses on the relationship between babies and parents (connection). The audiobook talks about grit/ communication/ early reading/ bilingualism...
A great audiobook to give or get! Recommended

Easy to follow and practical
This book is very different to most child development books on the market. As it is told in the way of a fictional novel - it keeps the reader engaged whilst learning along the way. It is wonderful and easy to follow and the information flows . It is very practical handbook to refer back to as it covers such a vast amount of information for parents and parents to be . Highly recommended . I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review

Useful, and in an engaging format.
I recieved a review copy of this book. It is interesting and well narrated. Whilst the steps are not something that I haven't seen before, the fictional presentation makes them very interesting and engaging. My only criticism would be that toward the end of the book the story became a little over the top and began to distract s little from. the information it was trying to convey.

WORTH EVERY PENNY!
I am a mother and I’ve been studying ways to improve myself and my kids for almost a decade. So, I read and listened to plenty of books about child development… Let me tell you-- it was a great surprise to find this incredible audibook and to listen and then read. The authors are two specialists of child development, Dr Andrew Watson and Dr. Charles Watson, PhD. And in this book they deliver all their knowledge in a very profound, yet comprehensive way. What called my attention is that the book is very practical and useful.
It is written like “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, full of tips in a story-like fashion. The main characters are very likable (Estela and Dr. Jansen), and the tips Michael Jansen shares throughout the book are SO VALUABLE!!!
Every chapter is one Step, and with a different scenery. Step 1 is connection between baby and parents; step 2 is communication (faster speech); step 3 is reading; step 4 is play and creativity; step 5 is self-control and growth mindset; step 6 is focus and sports; step 7 is about grit; step 8 is about bilingualism; step 9 is about friendships; step 10 is deliberate practice; step 11 is about values; step 12 is self knowledge and meditation. The authors knew how to mix complex researches with the story. It was really fun to read! They talked about play, deliberate practice, flow and many other important topics of the psychology of success, all with the voice of the main character, Dr. Jansen. He is fantastic! I wished I had a neuroscientist like him to guide me though my journey like Estela, sharing the strategies, what really, really works, not only empirical data, but the researches, the scientific data. There is so much good information that in the middle of the audiobook I had to buy the written version. But don't be mistaken, the audible version delivers it all.
A terrific book with plenty of sound advices. Read it and share with others that the ultimate book about child development and success has arrived.

I really liked this audio book
I really liked this audiobook. It's easy to read and really encourages parents to READ FOOD LABELS! I enjoyed it.

Very Informative and Revealing!
I got this book to better understand my granddaughter who is profoundly gifted. I was surprised to find that it also explained the "quirkiness" of my husband! He is also gifted though maybe not profoundly so, but after 32 years of marriage I didn't think a audiobook could help me understand my HUSBAND more! Wow! If you are attempting to find solutions to your "problem" child, this audiobook MAY help. It taught me to be more persistent in my advocacy of my granddaughter.
