A good steampunk mystery

Never had read anything regarding Steampunk but I received this and thought I would check it out. I was pleasantly surprised. The writing of the story is excellent and the narration is just as good. For it being a short novella the characters were well developed as well as the story The setting is in the future where there are hybrid flowers and plants as well as everyone has smart homes. Jasmine, who is head of the Alba organization, is the heroine that goes undercover at a high tech spa to find out whats going on. She is very smart and funny. The story has plenty of action as well as humor and some twists. It was a very enjoyable book. I recommend it to everyone whether you like the genre or not. You might just change you mind after reading/listening this one.

Steampunk and mystery? Yes please!

The Stepford Florist by JT Lawrence is a fun, steampunk based novella that rings in at about an hour and a half. Jasmine is basically undercover, trying to bring down some criminals that are working via the cover of a high-class spa. Being as the story is so short, I don't want to give away more s it would spoil the story, but it's a fun listen. Things take place in a futuristic time, where your smart home greets you and has whole conversations with you when you get home, and all types of new (to us) hybrid flowers and plants are around. Jasmine is a fun character and the secondary characters come together to provide the reader with an entertaining short listen.

I give the narration a 5 out of 5. Jenni Blythe was easy to understand and narrated each character well. There were no issues with cadence or the recording itself. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more of her performances in the future. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Cyberpunk undercover

Great short story set in a future cyberpunk world. Jasmine is arrested for doing illegal cosmetic procedures, namely a bootleg vampire facelift ( I absolutely love that name!). She is then hired to work for a company that she is investigating for wrongdoing. Of course, she gets herself in trouble and finally escapes with a little help from her friends.

Lots of great descriptions and dialogue, some action, some hot and steamy sex.....what more could a reader/listener want? I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to continuing this series. Loads of fun! Ms. Lawrence does a great job with the writing and Ms. Blythe is a great narrator.

The Stepford Florist

From the world of When Tomorrow Calls, The Stepford Florist is a very interesting short novel. JT Lawrence has such amazing creativity and imagination... I love the setting that she’s created. I’m always kept guessing as to where the twists and turns will take us.

Beautiful People in a Cyber-punk World

A short story/novella that's part of a series. The heroine is a smart, funny, self-depreciating agent in an organization that polices the new world of high tech bad guys. In this story, she acts on a tip from a friend to infiltrate a fancy high tech spa with more going on than meets the eye.
An interesting story, well written and with a good supporting cast. Even though it's part of a series, it stands well alone and I didn't have any difficulty figuring out the characters or the action.
I'm not normally a big fan of the gritty glitz of the cyber-punk literary scene but this one was fun.
I would listen to it again.

Loved this

Short and sweet. Kept me guessing right up until the end. Fast paced and funny.
I just love a good con-lady, double cross kinda thing. No one is the good guy, but it's so light-hearted. That is just good writing, my fiends...

Great book but not sure about the narrator

I was given this for free to give an honest review.

The book itself is a brilliant short read, although I really couldn't get on with the narrator.

It is a nice short listen which was perfect for my commute as I listened to it in a day.

Great story

So unusual & the descriptions of the clothes and tattoos are amazing.
A mystery to solve and people to read! Great main character.
I really enjoyed this. The storyline was fab. Considering it’s a short so much was packed into it.
The narrator was better when two characters were talking or part of the story, otherwise it was as if story was being read out.
I have to say this did not stop me enjoying it, def worth listening too.

FAB-U-LOUS

Once again JT Lawrence has blown my mind with her imagination. How does she do it, time and again? I'm a huge fan of this series, borne out by my listening to a novella. I don't like novellas. I always feel cheated! I want the full version. But JT Lawrence's writing is such that I'll read anything she writes; notes to the milkman, shopping lists, really anything. The only down point of this book is I was left wanting more! Jenni Blythe narrates the tale perfectly, (I felt incredibly sorry for her with the S.E.X., mortifying reading for any narrator I'd imagine). A brilliant listen that delivers a mighty punch for such a little book. Treat yourself; you can thank me later

You should have listened to me.

This is a difficult review to write: a case of what is probably an original and colourful short story totally destroyed by the narration. A futuristic steampunk short comedy thriller, the main protagonist, Jasmine, is a feisty woman of many talents, tattooed and beautiful, sexy, a grower of a stunning garden, she is also acting as an agent placing herself in dangerous situations.

Narrator Jenni B!ythe should have been a good match, her fairly strident girly voice showing a nice sardonic throwaway attitude just right for the Flower Girl. Flashes of this do show through. But for the most part she reads as if it were her first time viewing the text and she a teenage girl taking a reading test, with little comprehension and inappropriate pace changes and a very occasional mispronunciation. Even the several sex scenes sound as if she were reading an unfamiliar cooking recipe. Such a pity. The whole is compounded by her not differentiating her character voices adequately so that, for this reader, the story itself became lost behind the contemplation of the story telling.

I received a complimentary copy of The Stepford Florist, at my request, from the rights holder: my thanks for that. I dislike being negative in comments about any book I that read but this quirky story deserves I recommend that, rather than attempting to listen to the audio edition, new readers enjoy the print copy instead.
