New Series

Today I finished reading/listening to this story. My favorite character was Hudson. Nice to see a new series with one of my favorite authors. Enjoyed the journey of Bea and Simon.

Actor single dad/small town girl, hilarious troublesome teenage twin boys, figuring out life, rom com with hot hot spice covered in honey....

And when I say rom com. I mean it. I don't just mean lol. I actually laughted out loud at several points.

This book is the first in the series and can be read as a complete stand alone. You do not need to have read any other books by this author. But it will make you want to read more!

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch. And the accent!!! Oh la la!

Timing and delivery is everything

PIPPA writes it but the narrators made me laugh out loud. The best kind of story.

Delightfully Entertaining Romance!

I had so much fun listening to this delightful romcom filled with funny, quirky characters, hilarious situations, steamy passion, and loads of heart. Simon is a sexy British single dad to twin teen boys who are always getting up to something. It begins with them hiring Bea to cater a party that ends up with her getting arrested! Simon felt so bad he wanted to make it up to her somehow. Bea is the big sister/mom to her three brothers after losing their parents suddenly. She takes Simon up on his offer so she can get back at her ex who stole her parents idea for a restaurant then dumped her. They fake date to the restaurant and hilarity ensues! Simon has so much fun with Bea, that he keeps showing up wherever she is. Bea slowly gives in to the eternally cheerful Brit, who is more than his fame. They have fun together, help each other with their boys, and the chemistry between them is sizzling hot. Just as Bea thinks she might be falling for him, she learns a secret he has kept, and she feels once again betrayed by a man. Will Simon be able to show her he really cares, or will he leave her behind, breaking both their hearts? I really fell for both Simon and Bea who were so endearing and just laugh out loud funny. They were so different but their differences were where they shined. Bea was sweet behind her tough exterior, and took care of everybody, where Simon smiled all the time but was lonely behind his mask. He didn't have loving parents but was such a good father to his sons. I loved all their little quirks, their fun banter, and their chemistry was off the charts! I also loved all the amusing friends, family, and bodyguards who added so much fun and heart to this story.
Will Watt, and Callie Dalton did a fabulous job bringing this story to life. I loved the way they developed and expressed these characters strengths and vulnerabilities, making each character come alive, making me care for them, and cheer for their HEA. Their comedic timing was perfect and their easy delivery and inflections made this delightfully entertaining romance even more captivating.

Hmmm.... Simon is an actor & screenwriter who just recently because famous when a show he wrote went viral. He's got 13 year old twin boys that he co-parents with Lana, his ex-girlfriend.

Bea is one of those lovable, capable characters who does what she can for everyone she loves. Like when her parents died in a house fire, she came home to finish the raising of her 3 brothers. Now the youngest is in college and she can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Bea has recently started a burger bus - after her ex bf stole her idea for a restaurant, along with the location and some of Bea's money. So she is determined to make her Burger Bus wildly successful.

Simon & Bea both think they'll never fall in love - haha, joke's on them. Simon can't resist Bea's selflessness, not to mention her take no prisoners, can-do attitude. But when Bea finds out what Simon's using for inspiration for his next script, things go off the rails.

Grand Gesture to follow - I loved seeing Jake and his mother get their comeuppance.

Ten Stars

I love Pippa Grant's books and even better, her audiobooks. Missing some of Grant's typical silliness but none of her humor, THE SPITE DATE is my favorite Pippa Grant book ever. The characters are delightful. The plot is funny and sweet and engaging. As an audiobook, the narrators completely capture the essence of every character with individual voices and accents that make you believe there is a whole cast reading. Thinking of how often I have bestowed 5 star reviews on other books that I have loved, I have to double that for this one.

Give this ALL the stars!

I love a Pippa Grant stand alone but I deeply want this to be the first of many in a news series! The characters are so well written and the banter is witty in an interesting and engaging way. I love it. Also, where has Will Watt been all my life? I adore his snarky delivery and Callie Dalton is the perfect duet partner! This is one I will listen to multiple times.

I absolutely love Bea and her brothers! I can’t decide if I want stories of all her brothers or if I want ones with Daphne and Lana, they were all entertaining side characters! Bea was dealing with the aftermath of a breakup which is bad enough, but her ex was a world class d-bag with a manipulative family that was really making it their mission to destroy Bea. Simon was great for Bea, I loved their drunken date, they really egged each other on and were extra petty when it came to her ex’s family (which they deserved)! The restaurant scene with Simon’s parents had me cracking up, I was seriously entertained throughout the entire book. The brothers were protective and hilariously threatening to anyone who would hurt Bea, and they were a perfect combination with Simon’s twin boys! Callie Dalton and Will Watt did an amazing job narrating, they brought so much life to the story!
