The Abwehr assigned Hauptsturmführer Clay Kohler, wounded in the Spanish Civil War, as aide-de-camp to Generalmajor Hans Oster, their second in command. The Abwehr, WW II Nazi Germany's military intelligence arm, is neck deep in conspiracy. Although avid supporters of der Fuhrer and opponents of the Soviet communist regime, Nazi treatment of the Jews and other minorities have led to the disenchantment of senior Abwehr officials. Thus begins the spider's web dance of intrigue with the Allied powers and the 3rd Reich.
