Fast-paced fairy-tale re-imagined.

This was a fun Novella to listen to. I really enjoyed the sci-fi Aladdin retelling. I wish it was longer, but the story was so captivating I couldn't stop listening!

If you want an intriguing story to take a break from reality this is perfect!

Interesting Sci-Fi take on Aladdin

A gender-swapped, science fiction take on the Aladdin story.

A very good novella. I completely forgot it's a retelling of Aladdin, because although there are many similarities, there are many new concepts and twists.

I wish there was an epilogue that happens a few years later that describes how the dragons and Janet are doing. But oh, well. A good story as it is.

I requested this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and have voluntarily left this honest review.

Modern Fairytale

I listened to the audiobook of this story and I don’t know if it’s the audiobooks themselves but again this book reminds me of fairy tales, but modern. Maybe it’s Day’s style or the fact that this particular one is a new version of a fairy tale 🤷‍♀️.

I honestly think that if I didn’t know that this story is based on Aladdin, it would never have occurred to me. But knowing it, it is impressive how many similarities can be found, without being obvious.

For example, the names of the characters: Alana (Aladdin), a thief to survive, and Jasper, a member of “royalty” who gets along better with animals than humans (Jasmin). And the golden sphere (lamp) where Janet (the Genie) is trapped.

There are many more similarities, but I don’t want to mention them for avoiding spoilers.

I know I shouldn’t give this book 5 stars, as I had some unanswered questions. Like what about the dragons and what was Janet really, they bring it up but I honestly didn’t get it. Another thing that is not clear to me is the scope of the wishes that can be asked to Janet.

But I don’t care, I really enjoyed this story and the characters, I especially loved Jasper. Mention aside, the covers of Day Leitao’s books are truly wonderful.

So yeah, I’m giving it 5 stars anyway and I highly recommend it if you want a cute, entertaining and original short story.

Given copy to review but leaving unbiased review.

I received a free review copy, but I am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review of this book.

I honestly liked it very much.As other reviewers' have stated, this is a fun retelling of,Aladdin.

I really liked the main character,Alana and cheered for her and the young man,Jasper.

They are sort of thrown together and begrudgingly become friends and later fall in love.

I liked the fact that,Alana is a strong young woman and I would welcome a sequel of this book.

I really loved the narrator of this book,Marlies Dubois.

I think she has a very pleasant voice.I look forward to buying and listening to other audiobooks featuring her.

In closing I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves lighthearted sweet ya,books.

Unique and Inspiring

*I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
So what if Aladdin was a girl and she lived in Space? Not enough uniqueness for you? What if the Genie was alien-technology and there were dragons in need of rescuing?
The Sphere of Infinity is just that! A gender-bent space novella of Aladdin.

Our girl Alana is a professional thief trying to provide for herself and her mother. She gets hired to steal a golden orb off of a mysterious broken down alien ship hovering just outside her planet's atmosphere. The princess Jasmine is Jasper the son of a major government official working a side project to find the dragons supposedly hidden just outside of town.

There was minimal backstory and world-building, but that is typical of a Novella. The ending left me wanting more of their story. Alana is hilarious and snarky which are two of my favorite qualities in a protagonist. The antagonist was quite unexpected and a lot darker than in the well-known Disney version of the story. I feel like this would've done better as a full-length novel allowing for more culture and character building.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did well to show the emotions of Alana through her voice. However, there were several mistakes that were left into the final cut which can sometimes break the flow of the story.

A wonderful retelling of Aladdin.

Reviewer: Teresa Fallen Angel

Summary:
This was a fascinating retelling of Aladdin with a Sci-fi twist. Alana worked as a thief dreaming that one day she would take a job that would earn enough money to take care of her and her mother for the rest of their lives. Her chance came across taking her far away from home home into a situation that could end her life. Against all odds Alana finds a gold sphere that could change her life. If given the chance and given three wishes what would you ask for? Alana is determined to have her wishes come true, but rarely do things work out the way you want.

Alana met a handsome young man, Jasper, who seemed to be a fascinated by her as she was of him. Unfortunately, living in different social levels could make it questionable if they could be together. Don’t forget the three wishes and the individual who hired Alana who is determined to get the sphere form Alana at any costs.

A fun scifi adaptation of aladin

This is a good and grimm retelling of Aladin in space. It is not the Disney story, but it has a good pace and character adaptations and moral values.

A dark retelling of Aladdin

A dark retelling of Aladdin. I liked the space setting. I liked that there were dragons, although their role was a bit odd. I liked the "genie," that Aladdin became Alana. I did not like all the deaths in the story. They seemed unnecessary and abrupt and even a little callous. The backstory wasn't well developed, and although that is often the case in novellas, in this case, it made it hard to understand how all the pieces and all the people fit together. I like this author and I think she has some really cool ideas for her books. Unfortunately, this was not one of her best.

The narration was well done with a wide range of characterizations.

I received a free audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly.

Modern Aladdin ....much better than expected, definitely worth the read

Loved this, wasn’t sure if I was going to, but I loved every minute. Strong female lead, modern twists, ethical issues covered...a great modern take with sci fi to boot. Well done!

Great re-telling of a fairy tale

Female Aladdin (named Alana) told in a space setting. There is a Jasper instead of Jasmine. People were getting chipped since she was 12 and she has been evading them to not get it done.

I loved this gender reversed Aladdin retelling. It was quite interesting seeing it set in a completely different time as well.

Narrator did an ok job, it could have been better but it wasn't the worst that I have heard.

Sphere of Infinity

This a retelling of the Aladdin story only the roles are revered. The FMC is the thief. She gets hired to retrieve the Sphere of Infinity due to her size. What makes her a good thief is her ability to fit in impossible places. Jasper is the MC and he has come to see the dragons. By the end of the novella they are working to help rescue the dragons. I hope the story continues. I enjoyed the development in the story so far.
