Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Driving away, unsure where he was going, he fell through an interdimensional rift and found himself in a very different world, a city of magic and mystery and dangers beyond his comprehension, a land spinning out of control. Publisher's Summary
It's not easy being the youngest of seven sons in a family of notorious sorcerers, especially for Ayden Dracre. In a world where sorcerers only practice dark magic and wizards only practice light magic, Ayden has a problem; he is very bad at being bad. Try as he might, all of his spells to cause mayhem go awry. When he finds out that his family has had enough of his mistakes, he decides to take destiny into his own hands.
He has one chance to prove to his family that he is worthy of the sorcerer name or he will find himself on the unfortunate end of his mother's wrath; he must defeat the greatest wizard of all the lands. There are only two problems: he doesn't know how to fight with magic, and he doesn't want to hurt anyone. If he's going to survive this quest, he will have to rely on the most unlikely allies.

Humorous quest adventure
In many ways this is a "typical" quest story: a young man seeks his way in life, meeting allies along the way, until he comes to the object of his search and fulfills his quest. And some of the elements used in the story are well-known fairy tale tropes, such as the seventh son of a seventh son.
And yet this story didn't feel "typical." I found myself laughing at some of the situations Ayden got himself into, but I also felt sympathy toward him as he kept trying so hard to be the thing that he really isn't (and doesn't really want to be). The author was able to keep me wanting to read (listen) to the story and keep me interested in what happened to the character--but more importantly, I really cared about what happened to the characters.
As a coming of age story, Ayden finds himself caught between what his family wants for him and what he wants for himself (even though he doesn't know what that is yet). His quest doesn't end the way he expects, and his conflict is far from over (lots of room for the series to expand). I enjoyed meeting his companions along the way, and I look forward to reading even more adventures.

Great family-friendly fantasy
This book was exactly what I have been looking for. This is a family-friendly fantasy (think magic and Merlin) that I think would be perfect for a car trip with my family, and I look forward to listening to it again when we go on vacation this summer. Though I wouldn't normally choose a book dealing with this subject, I was thoroughly entertained. I'm glad I didn't miss out on this one. It is good, clean, and funny. Though I wouldn't consider this a "humor" book, there were definitely a few times I actually laughed out loud. I listened to the Audible version of this book, which was narrated by J. Scott Bennett. This narrator is one of my favorites, and I have listened to several book narrated by him. Though the other books I've listened to were darker and more mature in content, it was nice to see that he is versatile enough to pull off this kind of book as well. He's such a great narrator with great character differentiation and good pacing. Overall, this is a fun book, and if you're looking for something that you can enjoy as a family, or by yourself, this is a great option.

Quite Possibly the Best Book I've Read in A While
Any additional comments?
I loved this book, the characters were really awesome and the story kept me guessing. I liked the way the main character grew throughout the book and how funny it was. I really enjoyed listening to this book and plan on listening to it again. I liked the way the plot flowed and changed with the book and how the author set it up for the second book. I really enjoyed listening to it and it reminded me a bit of Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter in that a young magic user goes on a quest and is trained by a more experienced wizard.

Original take on the 7th son of a 7th son story.
Ayden Dracre, the seventh son of the baddest wicked sorceress on their world, has some problems. First off, he's just bad at being bad. He has blond hair and blue eyes, unlike all the other sorcerors, who have dark hair and red eyes. He can't conjure any food other than apples and brocoli, and all his wicked spells fail. Even his wand wont stay evil looking. Being the scrawniest of the brothers doesnt help either. So when he hears his borthers being given a task to kill a powerful Wizard, he gets a jump on them to try and do it himself, to prove he's not a failure. Along the way, he meets a wolf who can talk in his mind, who happens to be a cursed wizard by the name of Merlin (yes, that Merlin). It turns out there is a multiverse of different dimensions, and Merlin was trapped and cursed on Aydens. They also run across a Wizards ghost at his castle, where Ayden aquires a magical staff. It turns out that Ayden, as the Seventh son of a Seventh son, has the ability to utilize both Sorcery and Wizardry, which his mother desperatly want to control for her own schemes. After several run ins with his brothers, he finally meets the Wizard he is searching for, and more revalations concerning him come out. With a climactic final battle that is sheer enrgetic magic weilding, the book ends on a high point, with a mystery unraveled and some others just being pointed out. The plot is fast paced, the characters are a lot of fun, and J. Scott Bennett's narrations helps bring the story to life, especially when he voices Merlin and Ayden. I recommend this for any fantasy fans who like a little humor mixed in to the quest.
J. Scott Bennett had me rolling with some of the voices and mannerisms he used for these characters. Excellent job narrating.

For the love of Family
Would you consider the audio edition of The Sorcerer's Quest to be better than the print version?
I always prefer aduiobooks to paper because i can truly focus on the book, The audio version transforms the story into a movie in my mind,
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sorcerer's Quest?
For me the most memorable moment of the book was when Ayden finally accepted himself.
Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first book read by J. Scott, but i do plan to look for more by him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes it was.
Any additional comments?
Overall of the best comming of age magic stories i have read and the style of writing has made me a fan. I can't wait for the next book.

This was a fun light story to listen to!
I will start out by stating that this audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. With that out of the way, I can happily say that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, and I have since moved on to going through the rest of Ms. Oxford's books.
I was looking for something light and fun when I start this book, and that is exactly what I got. There isn't a huge amount of dramatic angst in this story, just a fun yarn about a boy becoming a wizard. J. Scott Bennett did an good job of acting out the different voices of the characters, and his portrayal of the main character's voice did an excellent job of getting my attention and keeping me interested.

Brilliant characters.
Ayden Dracre is the 7th son from a family of notorious sorcerers, but he is different. Sorcerers all have dark hair and eyes and practice dark magic whereas Wizards all have blond hair and blue eyes and practice light magic. Ayden is like the latter, he has blond hair and blue eyes and is so bad at being bad, no matter how hard he tries! Unlike his family, he has a conscience. When he realises that his mother wants to kill him because he is such a failure, he decides to go on a quest to kill a powerful Wizard before his brothers can and prove to his family he is a worthy Sorcerer.
Plot wise, this was a fun, action packed and magical read. I loved the setting and the whole feel of the world. Wizards are good and Sorcerers are bad, there is no inbetween. I loved the magical creatures they encountered and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure that Ayden was on.
Character wise, I loved Ayden!! He was such a joy to read. Despite his parents being bad, despite his brothers being bad and despite his wish for acceptance from his family, he has a conscience and actually listens to it. He knows not everything is black or white, there are multiple shades of grey in between. He listened to his head and heart and it made him all the more awesome.
In all, this was a fun and enjoyable read. It was action packed, adventurous and fun. I can't wait to read the next installment!!!
I've listened to a lot of books narrated by J. Scott Bennett and have always enjoyed them! He always delivers a great performance. He had plenty of tones and voices for each character and knows how to tell a good story. I highly recommend people check out his work!!
I was voluntarily provided this free copy by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Entertaining first book of series
This book covers the development of a young man who is trying to prove himself a sorcerer to please his family. What he finds is that he is neither a wizard nor a sorcerer but something entirely different.
The book develops the characters well as the young boy meets new people and has to learn to accept himself for what he is.
This book was narrated well with superb control of character voices and emotion.
This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.

The Sorcerer's Quest
Any additional comments?
I received this audio book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This was a pretty fun book - the narrator is brilliant! He gives distinct voices to the different characters, especially Ayden and Merlin. It was entertaining, fun and enjoyable. I really feel for Ayden only being able to summon and eat apples and broccoli.

7th/7th :) old take, new twists
I could have sworn I wrote this review ages ago. But I actually think I did write it, it went to preview and then I didn't hit send. Sigh, there's been a few of those I've found lately. Sorry. I finished this book off ages ago, while I was on holiday...
Anyway, I really enjoyed the narration of this, the tale of the 7th son of a 7th son has been done a few times, but I thought that this was interesting enough and Ayden was a pretty young yet cool character. It was a good growing up and character orientated story. Yes, at times I wondered if this was a little young for me, but I was laughing and crying along with the characters in the end I'd forgotten it was aimed at a little younger than myself. I feel that any age can listen to this and be swept away in the journey that Ayden and his friends have to endure. (I think everyone can identify with a parent that wants to control you, but don't most kids then just rebel even more?)
It was magic, fun and a great adventure. I'd highly recommend it and what prompted me to find my review was I noticed the second book is out! I shall have to get my to be listened to list down a bit before I take on anymore though.
The narrator did a great job with this, I really fell into the trap that there were more than one person doing this and then thought hard about it, great performance, which really helped, especially through the fun and the harsher times. Some great twists in here, you won't expect, but I'm not going to spoil them for you.
And I'll defo be picking up the next one in the series. :)
