In an 1889 small town on the coast, intrepid newspaper reporter Jo Felch is swept up in holiday magic and mystery when she steps in to perform in the town’s Christmas theatrical production. As props go missing and mishaps plague the show, Jo teams up with her former best friend to investigate the sabotage. Their list of suspects includes a spurned cast member, a disapproving reverend, and a new arrival to town with a troubled past.
When Jo and her partner discover the new woman is a former resident of the local orphanage that will benefit from the theatrical’s proceeds, they wonder if old memories have sparked resentment strong enough to spur revenge. The secret of a missing sleighbell, buried grudges, and the true meaning of charity and forgiveness all play a part in this historical mystery that evokes the spirit of the season.
