Life has dealt him an unfair hand, leaving him with few options. Will a chance encounter with a caring American colonial family provide a poor English boy with a stable home, or will the boy be lost in events that are spiraling out of control?

Peter Smith, a boy of humble beginnings, is a testament to the human spirit. Despite his impoverished upbringing, abduction, and mistreatment, he refuses to be defined by his circumstances. Born into poverty and hopelessness on the streets of Portsmouth, England, Peter is forced into a life of crime just to survive. His resilience is tested when he is snatched by an uncaring Naval officer and pressed into service aboard a British warship.

Scarred by his abuse, Peter struggles to find the will to live. As the winds of war sweep across the American colonies, Peter finds himself drawn into the fight on the side of the Americans. His journey is not just a physical one, but an emotional one, as he grapples with the desire for revenge and the hope for redemption. Fate presents him with a thrilling opportunity for revenge when an epic sea battle brings him face-to-face with his tormentor, but will he seize his chance at redemption or die trying?

The Sins of Men, the captivating first novel in The Peter Smith Chronicles series, is a must-read for fans of historical fiction. With its unique blend of historical battles, rich characters, and non-stop action, Danny J. Bradbury’s enthralling novel promises a gripping narrative and intense character development.

What I liked:
- the overall story

What I didn't like:
- SA. While it played a big part in the MC's life, I think it could have been minimized a bit.
- Narration was okay most of the time, but just completely emotionless when emotion was called for. This would be much better with a human narrating.
- While I really liked the overall story, the details of the story were just insufficient
- The dialogue was severely lacking, which made it hard to get attached to any characters
- It reads like it was written by AI (I don't know if it was or not, but it has that feeling)

My Recommendation:
- Take this off the shelves, expand the scenes to include more detail, rework/expand the dialogue to make the characters easier to develop feelings for, split this story up into a two-three book series, add human narration.
- This could be a great story

Great Rough Draft

The last battle was so ridiculous. The enemy ship was disabled, sinking, and dead in the water. Instead of sailing past her stern and delivering a devastating broadside that would run the lenght of the ship, our hero's captain puts his ship in the way of an enemy broadside, and gets close enough to allow the enemy to board.
The AI narration was as bad as you would expect.

So Bad. It was free but I still didn't get my moneys worth.
