Publisher's summary

With Royce Chadwick’s love, Breanna Colby feels like she can survive anything. But can he strike down the evil stalking her before it’s too late - for both of them?

A past shadowed by violence once forced Breanna to retreat from the world. Even now, with a treacherous enemy finally locked away, a nameless, faceless evil still stalks her. Determined to finally live on her own terms, Breanna vows to unmask a killer, but she can’t do it alone.

Royce Chadwick has a rare talent for finding people the law can’t touch. A loner by choice, he lives by a simple creed: Do the job and don’t get emotionally involved. But Breanna arouses something even deeper than his fierce need to protect her. As desires ignite into all-consuming passion, he knows he’s playing a dangerous game. On the trail of a slippery assassin who won’t rest until Breanna and her twin cousin are destroyed, Royce is about to break every one of his rules - and this time he's risking more than his heart.

Ridiculously unbelievable...so much drama

By the time this book was mercifully nearing the end, I was convinced I was listening to a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode starring Boris and Natasha with an intermittent appearance of Jessica Rabbit. The narration is so off. The reader would be fabulous for children's books. The inappropriate voices for the characters, so grating and annoying. The men are silly and women sound like babies spewing bubbles. Such an overblown drama, SMH, rolling eyes and then falling on the floor laughing. I am glad my Plus membership included it free. I do think the author has some good ideas for stories but they have nothing at all to do with the time period other than references to carriages and name dropping "Napoleon" or "the colonies" with nothing else mentioned about them, the reference thrown in to remind you that this is supposed to be a period piece. LOL, if you can manage to get through it the good news is you won't remember it by next week.

Silver Coin

After the 1st book in the series showing the heroine to be quite smart, I am disappointed to see this woman do something that is in the TSTL category. Everyone is going to extraordinary lengths to keep her safe & the 1st time she is alone, she turns into an imbecile.🙄 I’m done.

The narrator does a good job overall, although I find her character voice for Breanna to be too saccharine to be pleasing. I’m sure that’s just personal taste though because every other voice is just fine.

expected something different

I loved the story, and as always I really like Andrea Kane's way of writing, developing of the story, etc. However, I was really waiting for the Silver coin story because I wanted to hear Breanna's love story, and I feel it was a little lacking... I don't know if I had high expectations, and it's not that I didn't like the book, as I said, Andrea Kane has never disappointed me, but I wanted there to be more of a preamble, and more time for them to fall in love, more conversations, more sharing of their lives and not so much surrounding the "case".

**spoiler**
I don't know why the scars I expected Breanna to have because of her father's whipping were not mentioned at all... I was expecting Royce to feel them or see them the first time they were together but it didn't happen.... :/

The Silver Coin

Book 2 in the coin series by Andrea Kane. This is the story of the cousin Breanna from The Gold Coin an the revenge of the assassin she shot to save Stacy in book one. A very nice Regency romance with mystery built in! Nice plot and great characters. If you prefer audiobook format, Flora MacDonald does an excellent job narrating! 😊

I love these cousins!

This book like the first one- The Gold Coin is a fun and interesting book. The characters are fun. I loved everything about it BUT the narrator… I don’t know if she has ever had sexual experiences but she makes the men sound like they’re in agony or angry and the females sound like little girls (hate to put it that way). The good guys sound evil when seducing the women and you can’t tell who is the villain if not paying attention…the heroines sound like silly schoolgirls hatching plans in the playground…. I’d have liked this book more with a different narrator but she was ok….

ugh

I enjoyed the mystery, but there was too much romance/sex. I would prefer much more of that to have been left to my imagination!

stupid characters make stupid decisions

Bad guy gives plenty of time to victims to figure out who he is and how to stop him.
Main woman character keeps making bad choices so other people have to put themselves in danger to save her.
Main male character never tells law enforcement, or any one, anything because he wants to take care of it himself.
Toward the end of the book I just wanted them all to die to end my misery.
And I never understood why the original hit was placed in the cousin in the first place, which is the whole reason this story exists.
The book teased there is some deep mystery that needs to be solved, but really it's just poorly written erotica.

The Silver Coin

A very good adventurous mystery. There was quite a bit of romance thrown in for a spicy accent.

some troubling content

a bit silly and too long, some disturbing content but overall a decent listen and a nice romance. some mild creep behaviour, the hero allows the heroine to drink alcohol and makes advances while she is drunk, some dubious ability to 'control' himself. there also some judgment on how women should react to trauma, crying and swooning is weak and bad, we should always be strong and stoic. some descriptions of child and domestic abuse and the disturbing opinion that it made them stronger. some disturbing behaviour by the villian, similar to book 1. but the lovers are are least are honest, consenting adults in this romance.

Great collection

I really enjoyed this one and the gold coin. They were both stories that I wanted for them to go on and on. I hope the series will continue maybe with the kids?
