In the mist-shrouded Sussex countryside, Thornwood Hall stands as a monument to secrets—its ivy-clad walls whispering of a past that refuses to stay buried. When the enigmatic Monsieur Lucien Duval, a French detective with a razor-sharp mind and a penchant for unraveling the human soul, is summoned by the steely Lady Beatrice Ashford, he steps into a web of murder, betrayal, and long-forgotten sins. The brutal death of the groundskeeper is only the beginning—a cryptic note, a blood-stained wrench, and a fire that threatens to consume the manor hint at a vendetta rooted in the Ashford family’s shadowed legacy. As Duval peels back layers of deceit, he uncovers a conspiracy spun by those closest to the hearth—where loyalty masks vengeance, and a hidden heir seeks to claim Thornwood at any cost. With time running out and the flames closing in, Duval must navigate a maze of clues to expose the truth before the hall’s dark history burns it all to ashes. A gripping tale of intrigue and redemption, The Shadows of Thornwood will keep you guessing until the final, haunting revelation. If I could give zero stars I would. Weak plot, no character development and I do not believe the author ever opened up a thesaurus. One could easily create a drinking game based on the same words and phrases repeated numerous times. Ex. The word “shadow” repeated probably hundreds of times. Or the phrase “her cane cracked against the floor“ easily repeated 100 times. Horrible book. No wonder it was free.
