Publisher's summary

Idyllic memories. A perfect childhood. A secret buried for 30 years.

None of us could remember why we drifted apart. We spent our childhood marauding around our village in our little gang, coming of age, belonging, and getting into 'bother' as mum called it. But nothing bad ever really happened.

Or did it? Children see things that adults don't. It's as simple as that. Innocuous or bizarre coincidences aren't really that. Mysterious goings on can't really be shrugged away. There was something else happening, something terrible, but the adults were too busy doing life to see.

Thirty years later I started to remember - the school friends I hadn't thought of in all that time, people going missing - it was like I'd been made to forget. And then, the dreams started. Dreams that I knew I'd had before. Horrific dreams of fear and fire and death. Dreams of the Shadow Man, lurking behind it all, a terrifying ghost, an urban legend hanging over my home village like an evil spirit.

My memories were returning, haunted by the supernatural horror that was slowly unlocking them one by one. I realized we'd have to go back - back to Janey, because she never left - and to reunite with my friends, to face the Shadow Man once more.

The Shadow Man - a terrifying psychological horror thriller.

"A fantastic twisty horror tale such of the style of the moment, like The Chalk Man by C J Tudor." (Books and Emma blog)

Suspenseful

The Shadow Man is a confusing and suspenseful book. The storyline is awesome but it gets confusing in the story because it just jumps from the past to the present. The narrator did a phenomenal job at bringing the book to life as it was descriptive and detailed. I like he characters but I I my opinion the title should be changed. I received this review copy of the book at my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Really Good

This was much different from what I expected.

The story was great and lots of action.

The characters were developed quite nicely and the end was a surprise.

Julia Eve did a great job with narration.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

great ghost story?

I enjoyed the book very much however the narrator didnt use different voices for different characters which were mostly women so it made it hard to stay inline with the plot since you dont know a different character is speaking. otherwise a great book

Maybe it's me, but I just couldn't keep up....

I found this book difficult to stick to. So much so, I had to restart it a couple of times just to try to stay on scene. What really threw me off was the constant back and forth between then and now. Perhaps the physical book shows it well, but the audio book was a little hard to keep up with. The narrator was great. I loved her voicing of the characters. I liked the characters themselves. Honestly, from the very start I had a whole Stephen King's IT vibe to it. But I struggled to keep up with it and that really hurt it in the long run. The ending took me a little by surprise, I was really considering something supernatural, but I did love the surprise of the real Shadow Man. I also love how it kind of went back and filled in all of the questions about how things had actually happened in the past. It added a bit of closure. Overall, I think the story is great, the narrator is wonderful, but the fact that it's hard to keep up with just made it a difficult read for me.

Loved it

After 30 years several friends feel they have to go back to the small town they grew up in. Though the story isn't anywhere near as frightening as most horror stories it is well written and developed. I also LOVED the ending!

Julia Eve does a really good job with her narration.

A Thriller You Won't See Coming

This was a great suspense and mystery with a chilling feeling. With each chapter more and more is revealed and no of it I saw coming. Trust me, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat and will shock you until the very end! It's also a story about coming of age and memories of youth. Also about friendships between outcasts. There was totally nostalgia. But this isn't a warm and fuzzy story. This has a dark depth. This narrator did a great job telling the story. Her voice really gave it that magic.

Lost memories

Childhood friends return after many years to the town they grew up in, not at all sure why they have done so. And certainly unable to recall what happened to them all before they had left this mysterious place. The story bobs back and forth between the past and the present, and I found that quite engaging, although as others have pointed out, more distinction between the voices of different characters would have helped. But overall I quite enjoyed the story and the narration. The mystery of it all was quite compelling and fun trying to work out. Well done.

Manic Mania

I really struggled to finish this book. The Narrator is engaging, and does a wonderful job. However, the story bounces back and forth between the past and the present with no discernable way to tell the difference. the ending does wrap up well though. I am pretty neutral about this title. I might venture into this world again if I can locate a paperback. Im not saying dont give it a try. I'm just saying it doesnt make my list of enjoyable stories.
