Publisher's Summary

A serial killer. An Apache legend. A time of murder and magic on ancient ground...

The owl moves on heavy wings, his eyes piercingly bright, his cry loud and haunting. The owl is the last thing they see before the sharp knife flashes....

Sheriff Cliff Lansing is a single father, a part-time rancher, and an overworked lawman suddenly faced with a serial killing spree. A madman is moving through San Phillipe County on New Mexico's Continental Divide, leaving an owl feather by each of his ritually mutilated victims.

While Lansing first suspects that Apache tribal politics lie behind the killings, he cannot ignore a troubled boy who claims to see the murders in his sleep, and then leads Lansing to the bodies. Suddenly, the sheriff is plunged into a bizarre world of Native American legend and magic. And in a hauntingly beautiful land, Lansing must walk a dangerous path between hard evidence and fleeting visions-to cleanse a blood rage from the earth.

Excellent Story Unresolved Story Lines

While I enjoyed this fascinating story, when it ended, it left me with several questions about unresolved minor plot lines. I'm hoping they'll be addressed in the next book of this series.

I like the setting

and I like the main characters. I think Hackler overworks certain character or situation points to a painful degree that drags the stories (this and the others in this series) down. I think it's the error of a beginning fiction writer ? I also like that in his stories metaphysical /spiritual things are shown to be real. If he didn't beat those psychological or situational points to death, repeatedly, I'd really like these books, give them 4 or 5 stars.

Magickal

Mickah S. Hackler's "The Shadow Catcher", narrated well by Eric G Dove, gives you a glimpse into a world still attached to history, culture, super sensory perception, and moving across worlds in the present.

Good start, terrible finish

What started off as an engaging story with some supernatural overtones turned into a magic battle of resurrection, shape shifting and what not. I can deal with dreams or psychic stuff, but the other things I mentioned are just too much. This story bombed hard for me because of them. This type of cross genre story just never works for me.
One and done for this series.

The narrator does a great job though.

Hackler must have spent months & months researching the Background and Lore for this story... Eric Dove does A Masterful Job of Bringing Realism to the Audible format!
Recommend you Start this Series, my wife & I spend enjoyable time discussing Indian-lore and Legends Hackler uses to weave the Storyline!
