I was extremely pleased with this addition to the series. it opens up the story to another great adventure. Manning has woven a tale I can't image someone not enjoying.

Excellent!

As always, Manning delivers the best in epic fantasy. His world building is easily comparable to GRRM and his characters are down to earth, realistic people, warts and all! It's rare in this genre to find dialogue that reflects the rhythm of true speech- foul language not withstanding- and I appreciated that, especially in characters like Chad Grayson!

This is a true must read! if you haven't started this series yet- get to it! You will kick yourselves if you pass it up.

Another amazing work!

This book was very good and had everything you could hope for. Laughs, sadness, tears, disbelief, excitement, anticipation. Hard to stop listening to once started. This book is worthy of no less than 5 stars, but if I could give it more I would.

I enjoyed it.

This was a fun listen. However, it seems like the author made Tyrion made worse for the sake of the story. As a character, Tyrion has more going on for him than Mordecai. In order to bridge that gap, the author is de-evolving Tyrion to make up for the lack of character that is Mordecai.

I’m about sick of the queen ! Ugh

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

Let me start off by saying the book is amazing. This is my personal feelings about the queen and the things that she’s doing. It makes the book all the more better because you become that emotionally involved in my opinion.
I’ve been reading these books since the blacksmith son! I’ve read every single one, and I only have one left and I have to tell you I am very tired of the queen. I understand that there are certain things that the queen has to abide by because she is the monarch. However, i have a problem with the fact that the only reason why Ariadne is even queen, is because Mordecai put her father there years before, and she inherited the throne. She owes all that she has an is to Mordecai! So for her to do the things she’s doing is really pissing me off. I read through some of the reviews and I can’t believe no one else has said anything about it. After everything he’s done for her, shes still after him and his dragon eggs. He doesn’t owe her anything if anything it’s the other way around! If Mordecai told her, he did not murder the prince, she should’ve believed him, and did what she had to do to make sure that he didn’t get found guilty for it , Who cares if she lost her “throne” Mordecai is her family not to mention as I’ve said in this review she’s only in that place because he put her family there to begin with! I have no love for her and I haven’t since she allowed him to be whipped publicly in the last books. I don’t care how bad she felt about it, that throne is the most important thing to her and it’s not even rightfully hers! Not to mention that right before she arrested him he brought back her brother, Roland that she was supposedly so worried about, and she knew her sick husband was doing things he shouldn’t at his hunting lodge, and she didn’t do anything about it, which intern led to Mordecai going after him. Like Rose told her if she had done what she was supposed to do none of this would’ve happened! Anyway, besides that the book is really good I’m glad that Rose and him started to get together, but it didn’t go very far of course something always intervenes. I wanted them to hook up since the first set of books. I guess I can admit Penny always got on my nerves. I always liked Rose better and thought she was better suited for Mordecai. I don’t know why . And now that we know Penny cheated on Mordecai for sure, I like her even less! The book ended on a really weird note and cliffhanger I can’t say I’m disappointed the way it ended because I’m hoping it will do something to help the situation !!! But I know how Michael Manning writes lol and I have a feeling that it’s not gonna be a happy ending, but I could be wrong and I don’t wanna spoil it by reading other reviews and finding out the that way. But I had to write a review, because I am so sick of the queen , I hope she gets what’s coming to her as mean, as that sounds. I’m off to read the last and final book besides the queen pissing me off. The book is amazing and me being that upset about her just shows you how good the book is and it tugs at your emotions in different ways. I’ve gotten mad, laughed and cried!

Excellent Story and Performance

I have listened to everything MGM has written thus far and it is has been excellent. The only downside is the end of it. Alex Windham has performed this book fantastically as always. All the moods are captured. Very well done all around.

Great Overall...But...

A few times, the voices were not delineated. The story shifted at odd places sometimes.

Great new instalment in noteworthy series.

As plotlines start to converge an the end game plan of the Illeniel elders starts to unravel itself, Mordecai, one of the few living archmagea, has to protect himself and his loved ones from court intrigue his ruthless ancestor and the darkness living within ever since becoming one with the void. As events unfold, with the ever looming threat from machines, an ancient Illeniel arch enemy a grand game of power wit and magical ability will determine the fate of the world. The book, same as previous instalments in the serries delivers on all accounts; excellent storytelling, magic system, narration and not infrequent humour. One of my favourite contemporary fantasy writers to date.
