From the author of the landmark Secret Teachings of All Ages comes two classic works on the mysterious origins and unique mission of America: The Secret Destiny of America and America’s Assignment with Destiny.

Focusing on often-forgotten moments in history, Manley P. Hall proposes that there was a Great Plan put forth 1,000 years before our nation’s founding: Humanistic and mystical organizations wished for the continent to be the location for an experiment in self-government and religious freedom.

As one of the leading esoteric scholars of the 20th century, Hall offers an intriguing view of our past, discussing everything from the symbolism of the Great Seal of the US to the prophecy announced at George Washington’s birth.

Worth the listen for the Christopher Columbus chapter alone. Between that and the stuff about the Greeks it had my attention.

I wish I could share this book so my son could listen to the whole book and not just the preview at which point he’s encouraged to purchase the book. Very disappointing.

I'm not a conspiracy person but Hall's writings are thoughtful and well researched and documented. and he's from Brooklyn. highly recommended.

Fascinating conjecture on the birth of democracy

In a nutshell, I'd say the book is interesting, with references, historical insights and speculations that could very well otherwise be lost to time. So I'm grateful for having listened to it. The most interesting is the prophetic poem written by Sir William Hope, which predicts some remarkable things about the founding fathers of America. Hall speculates that the prophecy was inspired by astrological readings, or Kabbalistic insights. I have no clue. Which is why I say _he speculates_, because it's important not to read these things with too much authority, until one can get supporting evidence, or find other authors saying the same things. At least now I have the names and seeds planted, in case others facts pop up. On its own, it's somewhat inadequate - e.g. the story of the unknown man who inspired the founding fathers to sign; or the General's dream of getting divine inspiration / a message from George Washington - all of this reads like it could just as well be some old-time pro-American propaganda. It very much paints an optimistic perspective on the influence of freemasonry and other secret societies in the formation of America, and as much as it can be truthful, it's also far too rosy for my liking, and comes off as cherry-picked. I don't know enough to say for sure, as it's my first Manly P Hall book, but that's the impression I'm left with.

Lastly, the reader is not too bad, but it's unedited... at least 5 minutes of audio should have been cut, where he re-reads the same lines, but it was just released as is, without editing. Somewhat disappointing. It's mainly the second half of the book where he re-reads a lot, and it feels kind of laughable that it wasn't edited. But it doesn't harm the book too much. Giving it 3 stars overall
