Story
Summer has come to Krynn, a summer unlike any before. The sun bears down on land and sea, searing the world with relentless light and heat. Clouds and rain are nowhere to be found, and even the darkness of night brings little relief from the strange and oppressive day. Meanwhile, those who commune regularly with their gods are uneasy. Every day, their deities become more distant, more difficult to reach. Clerics' prayers go unanswered, and magic goes awry.

Publisher's Summary
Years have passed since the end of the War of the Lance. The people of Ansalon have rebuilt their lives, their houses, their families. The Companions of the Lance, too, have returned to their homes, raising children and putting the days of their heroic deeds behind them.
But peace on Krynn comes at a price. The forces of darkness are ever vigilant, searching for ways to erode the balance of power and take control. When subtle changes begin to permeate the fragile peace, new lives are drawn into the web of fate woven around all the races. The time has come to pass the sword - or the staff - to the children of the Lance.
They are the Second Generation. An all-new audiobook edition of a classic Dragonlance novel.
This book of five novellas bridges the gap between the Chronicles and Legends trilogies and Dragons of Summer Flame. While detailing their adventures, The Second Generation also sets up key events and characters in future Dragonlance novels.

Good story
Where does The Second Generation rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would give it an 8 out of 10.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Second Generation?
When Steel was brought be fore the Tomb of his father.
Which character – as performed by Gabra Zackman – was your favorite?
Steel Brightblade I feel she did very well with.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes
Any additional comments?
I would have given 5 stars all around but it still bothers me that they switched narrators for this series again. the original (Paul Boehmer) was just so good that the other two narrators paled in comparison.

Good performance classic Dragonlance
Would you consider the audio edition of The Second Generation to be better than the print version?
The performing of the stories is quite good. Ms Zackman is certainly a pro who know what she is about. Listening to audiobooks and reading a book are two such different things that I cannot compare them. In my opinion, they are two different ways to enjoy the same medium.
What does Gabra Zackman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It's interesting the way she portrays some of the characters: she gives them voices that fit. I like the way she goes from "narration" mode in descriptions and introductions to "interpretation" mode in dialogues and stream of consciousness.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It got me interested, which is the main objective of an audiobook.
Any additional comments?
In the metatags, I'd add "Dragonlance" to the titles of the book, which in fact is following "Dragons of Spring Dawning" and just before "Dragons of Summer Flame". I'd insert it between those two.

Brilliant nostalgia
With a lot of DragonLance it’s hit or miss with the narration. (As always listen to the sample after 5 minutes it’s obvious If you will enjoy it. Or you may disagree with me.) This one is hit. All the tales are great and expanded the world of Kryyn. All the stories are fun and well written. Don’t pass this up. It’s will make Dragons of Summer Flame A LOT more enjoyable. The Second Generation is must listen.

Very Disappointing!
This book was so bad on so many levels. While it did have some of the original characters it was mostly about their children. It can be broke down into 4 parts.
Sturm & Kitiara’s son
Caramon & Tika’s 3 sons
The legend of Raistlin’s daughter
Tanis & Laurana’s Son
This breakdown made the book feel very disjointed. The 1st & 4th parts were ok but the 2nd & 3rd were absolute garbage. Maybe it’s me but I’m so tired of the Majere clan at point reading about them is tedious. Caramon is as dumb as ever so of course he raised 2 really stupid sons & a less stupid one that is stunted in his maturity. This stunted maturity comes about the same why Caramon helped to create Raistlin’s anger & resentment. It’s just so tiring! The legend of Raistlin’s daughter was just uninteresting & boring. Everything that happens in it is easily guessed before it happens. No new ideas or thoughts were introduced so really what was the point?
Like I said the 1st & 4th parts were serviceable but nothing more. I certainly would not reading this just for those two parts.
I’ve reviewing the audible version so I’ll comment on the narration. It was bad & I mean really bad. Not Ax Norman bad but still it’s pretty bad. The voice actor did not seem to understand that while an author may write “whispering” in the test the voice actor can’t whisper so low you can’t hear what’s being said. So you crank up the volume then it’s back to normal voice, or worse yet loud voice, & your eardrums are shattered. This was throughout the entire book so it made the experience horrible.
