Some people, it is said, have the "Midas touch", and all that they touch turns to gold. For Elena Ellery, however, the opposite is true. Everyone that Elena comes into contact with, fares badly.

When gold is discovered on what was historically believed to be her father's property but was never registered to him and the placer miners who discovered the gold are shot dead by her family in an unfortunate misunderstanding, this unleashes a chain of events that affect the rest of her life.

Being sworn as a child to keeping those deaths a secret tears her apart emotionally and mentally, leaving her fragile and vulnerable. When Sheriff Conklin reopens the investigation, Elena must choose between keeping the secret to protect her family or telling the truth as she knows it and risk losing her family to the hangman.

Is Elena truly cursed, or is she just an unfortunate soul caught up in a hopeless impossible situation?

Going through life having this constantly over your shoulder not to mention for the ones who carry it is guilt and remorse and when something has to give what will it be? Will justice be served will the perpetrators have to pay their dues and then the end who will pay the biggest price. This book is so good it should be an instant classic. Tell me Gavin has blown me away. I loved wooden star, but comparing wooden star did this book is like comparing Walmart to Nordstrom’s they are just different vastly different both good it’s just a different quality. This book made me cry it also made me laugh you run the gamut of emotions I don’t even get me started on the narrator. I always say a narrator can make or break a book this narrator made an excellent book sound great!
