Publisher's summary

I caught the bouquet at my best friend’s wedding. I wasn’t even dating anyone, so I was sure I wouldn’t be next.

Until someone from the past came back. We’d promised if neither of us were married by the time we were 30, we’d marry each other.

But then I’m taken captive by someone else and told I am the sacrifice, that I’m now property. A payment for a debt that has nothing to do with me.

Now I wish I could go back to that boring, safe life. Because this can’t possibly be my fairy tale.

NOTE: This is a dark contemporary standalone that occurs in the same world as The Proposal. This book can be listened to first or completely by itself.

If you like dark alpha male billionaires that kidnap the heroine into a contract marriage of convenience, you'll love The Sacrifice.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧Great Twists!

Kitty Thomas pens another dark and twisted story, a story that grabbed my attention from the very first scene and wow, what a scene it is and what a tease. Macy Laine, the sweet Macy Laine has kept her virtue for thirty years, she and William, a friend from college, had a pact that if they were still single at thirty, they would marry each other. She is busy planning her wedding, but she has reservations about it, the biggest being there is no chemistry between them and as sweet as Macy is she has some dark desires. Then her life takes a sudden turn, she is taken by Soren to pay off a debt to Colin who intends to sacrifice and will become a sacrifice to the members of an exclusive club.  Colin Black, a dominant alpha master, through and through, he knows what he wants and takes it. Macy is a real gem, nothing like any of the women he had before and he is going to have his way with her and have her asking for more. The plotting in this book is amazing, so are the twists and turns, which are mind-blowing. The story is well written and has the perfect balance of drama, angst, some witty dialogue, heartfelt emotions, an unconventional romance and steamy and well done kink. Kitty Thomas, thank you for the great story and wild ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. Barnes’ Macy was fantastic, grasping every side of her personality, her sweet and innocent side to her passionate side. Clarke nailed it as Colin, as the intense, dark and demanding alpha he was. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen.

Dark BDSM Romantic Suspense!

This is the second book in this world. Although you can read them in any order. This one features Macy. She is an almost 30 year old virgin. She is also a librarian with a very active sexual fantasy. She is supposed to marry her college friend. They had a pact that if they were both single at thirty they would marry. But Livia’s, her best friend, husband abducts her. And delivers her as a gift to Colin Black. He now owns her. She is to be the Sacifice. But no one will explain what that means. This story is deviously twisted. Macy’s fantasy world seems to be coming true. Can she let go of her conventional mores? Will Colin ever let her go? The more she learns about him she becomes more entranced and repulsed. Kitty Thomas is one of my one-click authors.

I loved the dual narration. Addison Barnes and Jason Clark do an excellent job conveying all the emotions and danger.

Unexpected plot twists!

Wow what a unique book. I was holding my breath half the time! Macy and Colin are very unexpected heroine/hero. Kitty Thomas has brought forth her best writing skills, her best plot and characters yet in this steamy, emotional yet unpredictable love story. Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes narrations are fantastic. As disturbing as some of the early chapters were, Jason made it impossible not to like our anti-hero and Addison portrays a sweet vulnerable Macy but with a secret spine of steel. Absolutely loved it!

It was okay!💜

The overall storyline was good but it’s the characters that I didn’t care for. First, I get that women have fantasies and that’s great. But reality and fantasy in this case were so close that there really wasn’t any angst for me.
There were some pretty hot scenes though 🔥🔥😍.
The narration was really good.
This is book 2 with an HEA and can be read as a standalone.

Macy...

Macy is a hater and envious of Livia, and that's annoying. Other than that, I loved the story. Super hot! Jason Clarke is definitely amazing.

Dark Fantasy with Great Duet Narration

I think this can be a standalone, so don’t fret if you haven’t gone through another book first. The story starts right away and kept me interested the whole way through.

Having dreams and fantasies are fun, but when they happen in real life it can be confusing. The story of Macy and Collin can leave you with mixed emotions, but it makes for a great story!

Macy and Her Marshmallow

Colin and Macy were truly brought to life. One thing I really enjoy about audiobooks of KT's work is that I can always feel exactly what the story needs me to feel. I love that for me. I really really enjoyed this.

Oh my gosh this is pure Kitty Thomas goodness. It was everything I expected and then some. I never leave spoilers in reviews and there is nothing I can say that won't spoil this book. Just one click and enjoy the magic.

Tha narration is fantastic. Colin is absolutely how I imagined him. The deep gruff voice is perfect.

Macy and Colin

I've been looking forward to Macy's story ever since she was introduced in The Proposal. Macy is Livia's innocent best friend who finds herself at the mercy of Colin, another character we met in The Proposal. I really loved this story and the way these two seemingly incompatible characters found something in each other that was uniquely suited to them. While this has Kitty's signature brand of darkness, there's a lot of humor that lightened the mood. I enjoyed being privy to Macy's thoughts and ramblings. Colin is a bit more of a dark horse and, at times, I wasn't quite sure of the direction the book was going to take. He is certainly a dark character and not a safe choice, but I couldn't help but root for this couple. Of course, there's kink and heat that you'd expect from a Kitty Thomas book. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to see more of these characters!

Jason and Addison did an amazing job bringing these characters to life!

Amazing story

While this is the second book of the Dark Wedding series, it can be a stand-alone, or read out of order. I had already read both books in this series, but it had been a while and I didn't completely remember the stories. When the author offered me a chance to review this audio, I jumped at the chance, even with this being the second story.

So this story takes place not too long after the end of The Proposal (Dark Wedding #1). Macy is the best friend of the bride in The Proposal, who catches the bouquet at the wedding. She's a research librarian for a university. She's an introvert with few friends and not much of a life. She does like to google random facts, which she can't help but share with people when talking about any topic she knows. She also has some really dark fantasies, especially for a 30-year-old virgin.

During school, she and a male friend made a pact, if neither was married by the time they were 30, they would marry each other. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But she starts planning her wedding to a guy she has little interest in. Then her friends' husband has a debt to pay. So he kidnaps Macy and delivers her to be a virgin sacrifice.

If you've ever read Kitty Thomas, you know she writes some dark stories. This one is dark, but it does not mean her darkest ones. While there is kidnapping and coercion, the stories work out in the end for everyone. It is one of those things where I enjoy reading the story, knowing it is fiction. I wouldn't want to see it happen in real-life, even with a happy-ever-after. I really love the characters that Kitty Thomas writes. I always have a good time reading them and love when a stand-alone book becomes a series (just like this one did), so that I get more time with the characters.

Narration
This is my first time listening to Jason Clarke or Addison Barnes. I think they did a good job. Dual narration isn't my favorite narration type. I honestly prefer a great single narrator, but this was done really well. I think they did a great job with all the voices and the inner monologues. I would gladly listen to them again.
