Publisher's Summary

What if being in love isn't a good enough reason to get married? What if dating isn't about finding "the one," but about serving the one who loves you most? Don't get married until you listen to this audiobook.

In The Sacred Search, Gary Thomas challenges you to think beyond finding a "soul mate" and to look for a "sole mate" - someone who will walk with you on your spiritual journey. After all, if you don't know why to marry, you won't know who to marry. The Sacred Search casts a vision for building a relationship around a shared spiritual mission - and making a marriage with eternity at its heart.

A Great Read for both Singles and Couples

As a single woman who loves the Lord, this book reached me right where I'm at in life. I needed to hear the truth that resides within these pages (or my headphones as the case may be). I received so much revelation about my own values on dating that I need to work through with God before I enter into a dating relationship.

I also see how this book can be great for non-married couples, whether they're dating or engaged. It will challenge your relationship and make you look at one another with new eyes, which is needed before saying wedding vows.

I highly recommend this book, and I pray that it will be as much of a blessing to you as it was to me.

I need this book to regain perspective

Just reading this book when the wave of emotions is high allows me to bring things back into pespective. This is an amazing book filled with so much truth that washes over ones soul. instead of being drawn into the tide of emotional attraction it has allowed me to realign my appoach for pursuing a wife in a way that is pure and good. No more this business of running wherever the emotions go, rather i control tings ... Haha at least i hope i do.

Thought provoking

This was definitely worth it. A good read for every christian and even more so for single Christians from troubled homes, troubled pasts and troubled marriages/family histories. It's a bold and courageous step in unlearning the toxic behavior.

Good practical book

Book uses great examples and imagery to drive its points. Makes you consider the future when choosing a life partner.

Only problem is if you search for a wife/husband in this manner you can kill any romantic notion.

Great read

Recommend this book to everyone who is dating but unsure if you’re making the right decision. It helps you identify what characteristics are important in a significant other and changes your perspective on how to choose a spouse.

Grounded

This was a very good book. It made me realize that what I was experiencing was enfatuation for the longest time, and once I was able to see through that, I was able to appreciate who I was with for who she is.

Good and sobering advice

I liked the fact Gary didn't candy coat the reality of marriage and the fact that most people don't choose wisely. Most of the world will tell you you must be in love and how important sex is but marriage is much more than that. It should be based in friendship as well- supporting one another and helping each other fulfill a purposeful mission. Looking for someone of good character was emphasized rather than worldly attributes. This is one of the most realistic and practical Christian books for singles looking to get married out there.

Best book you’ll ever read on relationships.

If I had read this a year ago, I never would have suffered a broken engagement.

Every single person should read this book

A much needed book for people of all ages that are dating. He writes with urgency and paints a great picture of just how big of a decision marriage is. This is my go to gift book for young people.

Every Christian should read this book!!

Maybe non-Christians too.
Gary brings up some very valid and important points and questions, that maybe mostly work on a Christian based mind, but also have huge value in any other friendship and/or relationship!
What are my reasons for marriage??.... This book has made me requestion and rethink several things. It's made me see that we really DO need to be rooted in God/Jesus first!! Because we're all imperfect and sinners, and no husband or wife can be that base, that rock, that He is.
It's made me see how important it really is to choose wisely and not let feelings control.
To carry our crosses together as a married couple, together with Jesus. Because THAT is what makes it work.
We can't avoid hard times, trials. But we can be ready and prepared and strong enough to face them together and with Jesus!
So.... READ IT READ IT READ IT!!! For you, for your future spouse, for you future children, for your future.
And grow!
I'm glad I read it now!!!

Good book, eye opener that makes you really think and consider BUT

Good book, eye opener that makes you really think and consider BUT my only issue with the book is that there was little or no emphasis on interacting with the Holy Spirit for a decision as serious as this, no matter how much diligence we try within our human knowledge as a believer one should also ask the Holy Spirit what He thinks of the person you are about to marry. In the book He talks about seeking other people’s opinion but not the most important opinion a believer could ever ask, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God, He sees and knows everything, we should get Him involved. Asides this, it is a good book that will help you.

Pretty hard hitting...

I enjoyed it for the most part...and precisely because it was rather negative in its outlook and that not uniquely among others I've read. Very powerful truths in there for good measure!

Fantastic, apart from one line.

Would you listen to The Sacred Search again? Why?

I would listen again. Fantastic, filled with advice.

Any additional comments?

There is one line in the book which speaks of parents who immunised their child and immediately saw autistic traits appear in the boy. Since it is proven that there is no link between vaccines and autism, the writer clearly needs to do a bit more research.
