Publisher's summary

Two couples' lives become scandalously entwined in this novel by best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand, the 'queen of the summer novel' (People).

Nantucket writer Madeline King has a new novel coming out, and it's got best seller potential. But Madeline is terrified, because in her desperation to revive her career she's done something reckless: reveal the truth behind an actual affair involving her best friend, Grace. And that's not the only strain on Madeline and Grace's friendship. One fateful night the two women argue, voicing jealousies and resentments that have built for 20 years. Bereft of each other, they get caught in the snares of a mysterious and destructive stranger.

The Rumour is an irresistible novel about the power of gossip to change the course of events and the desire of people to find their way back to what really matters.

Enjoyable listen. Good performance

I enjoy passing my time with Elin Hilderbrand listens. I travel often and I can't read due to motion sickness.

predictable

Narrator mispronounced so many words I lost count. Drove me nuts. I did like the description of the beautiful gardens/grounds that belonged ty o Grace and Eddie.

There are a few twists & turns in this book that you don't expect. I also love that my daughter listened with me on a car ride & she enjoyed it as well!

Great summer beach read!

This story was entertaining , light and had an air of truthfulness of how gossip spreads in a small town. I would highly recommend packing it in the beach bag for your next outing.

Worst Boston accent I’ve ever heard

That was the worst Boston accent I’ve ever hears. Gross mispronunciation of several extremely common words and names. “Kanye” and “Laphroaig” off the top of my head.

Great SUmmer Read!

Great to get lost in the lives of the people on Nantucket. Love that the Author keeps some of the characters still in place from the other books.
