Publisher's Summary

The empowering story of Larry Hite’s unlikely rise to the top of the hedge fund world - with critical insights and lessons you can take to the bank

In The Rule, legendary trader and hedge fund pioneer Larry Hite recounts his working-class upbringing in Brooklyn as a dyslexic, partially blind kid who was anything but a model student - and how he went on to found and run Mint Investment Management Company, one of the most profitable and largest quantitative hedge funds in the world.

Hite’s wild success is based on his deep understanding that markets are flawed - just like people. Through his early-life struggles and failures, Hite came to know himself well - his fears, his frustrations, his self-doubt, and his tolerance for all of the above. This motivational book reveals that by accepting the facts of his life and of himself, he was able to accept markets as they are. And that was the key to his success.

In these pages, you’ll walk of the footsteps of an investing legend, who imparts smart, practical trading lessons throughout the journey. Making a successful living in trading isn’t about beating the markets. It’s about meeting markets where they are, embracing the fact of risk, knowing yourself, and playing it strictly by the numbers.

The Rule shows that investing decisions are not only bets or gambles, but investments in time, energy, and attention. By focusing on realistic returns on your investments - versus what you expect or hope to get - you immediately improve your probability for success.

Slow start but stick with it!

I've been an active trader for never nearly 40 years, and when I first started listening to this book I thought there's not much here, and almost returned the book, but I like the author's concepts, so I continued listening to the end, and I'm glad I did.

Even though most of the lessons will be self-evident to experienced traders, Larry's concept was fascinating, explaining how market rules also apply to life.

It's a fast booking worth the time!

Once I got past the mention of options.

I realized options & futures isn't the only place it will work. It will also work without borrowing money at all. Which is what leverage is. Just a fancy word for borrowing money. That's when I really started enjoying the book. The one thing I wish they would have done differently in the audio book is have two different voices for the conversation in chapter 9. It would have made it easier to follow.

Larry goes into detail on the psychology of trading. something many traders lack! He also goes in depth into risk analysis showing why risk is more important than anything else.

Financial types make terrible writers

I picked this up because I strongly believe in Larry’s principals, and was eager for more insight or in depth analysis of the premise. Unfortunately, what can be summed up in a paragraph is neither expounded upon in a useful or interesting sort of fashion. The stories Larry uses as evidence of transactions that follow his rule are made in a simple sophomoric sort of way. Somehow The Rule was stretched out into a book, but it has neither the content or insightfulness to justify its pages.

5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think there’s something really special when a modern day great shares his story.
This is the second time I’ve listened to this book and it definitely won’t be the last, so inspirational and educational!
Thank you!

Disappointing!

I don't really write reviews. But I was expecting much more from this book, however it delivered little. The same old trend trading mantras, "cut your losses quickly and let your winners run". Completely void of detail, as anyone will know if they have traded for any length of time. Michael Covels books are always the same, but I thought perhaps given the age of Larry, that this time it would be different and he would perhaps drop some bombs of detailed wizdom, but sadly this book fails to deliver. Even though they have a chapter suggeting this time it would be different, it wasn't. Lots of nice stories about Larrys youth, and how he faced his challenges with Dyslexia etc. But in terms of detail, actual usable detail, the book falls flat on it's face.

A Traders Version Of Think And Grow Rich

I would recommend this audiobook for anyone who is considering to become a trader or anyone who is an existing trader.

It goes beyond the basics of trend following.
