Biblical Instances of Suicide
1. Judges 9:54 - Abimelech, a judge, asked a soldier to kill him because of his injuries.
2. Judges 16:30 - Samson pulled down a building on top of himself to kill a bunch of Philistines
3. 1 Samuel 31:4 - Saul fell on his own sword when fatally injured in battle.
4. 1 Samuel 31:5 - Saul's amor-bearer followed his example.
5. 2 Samuel 17:23 - Ahithophel, one of David’s enemies, hung himself.
6. 1 Kings 16:18 - Zimri, one of Israel’s evil kings, burnt himself alive in his house when his people turned on him.
7. Matthew 27:5 - Judas hanged himself after betraying Jesus.

Dr Bryan Fergus is driven by a passion to teach God’s Word in clear and applicable ways and to train up the next generation of Christian pastors and leaders. He currently pursues his passion by serving as an Adjunct Professor at Phoenix Seminary, Calvary Chapel University, and Arizona Christian University. He is also the Lead Educator at The Rugged Truth.
Bryan Fergus served in vocational pastoral ministry for 32 years. He has also been teaching courses on the Bible, theology, ancient near eastern history and pastoral leadership at Christian universities and seminaries on four continents for the past 21 years. Dr Fergus earned his Doctor of Ministry degree through Phoenix Seminary, writing a dissertation entitled The Intersection of Analytic Theology and Catechesis.
