Publisher's summary

Betrayal. It creates rivals.

With the traitor discovered, Jinx Whitethorn takes Jacob Trent back to the home she grew up in. Bringing her shifter boyfriend to a house full of witches is asking for trouble, but Jinx is beyond caring what they think. She needs answers. Answers only they might provide. And they’re willing to endure the hostility to get them.

Surrounded by witch knowledge and magic, Jinx learns more about the curse her father placed on the Bane Pack. But that’s not all. She’s learning to harbor secrets of her own. She can’t keep dodging the Bane Pack, and if she wants to end this, she’ll have to do it alone.

Jacob would never approve of what Jinx is going to do. He can never know. Not until it’s too late to stop her.

The Rival of Species is the third book of Howl for the Damned, a series based in the world of D. Fischer’s Divinus Kingdom. Divinus Kingdom is interconnecting novels that branch one series to the next.

Treachery, loyalty, honor and integrity

Jinx and Sara are heading back to the home that never really felt like home in this fast paced trilogy climax, but this time they have their protectors, Jacob and Cinder, close by their sides. Book 2 explored the shifter side of the issues, this book delves deeper into the witches' society. And the more they learn, the more doesn't quite add up. Both Jinx and Sara face difficult decisions as they learn more about themselves, their powers, the Bane pack, the the curse that draws them all together. The ending was not what I expected - but very satisfying.

This is the third book in the Howl for the Damned Trilogy and these books definitely need to be read in order as they slowly unravel a story that builds form book to book.

Claudia Rivera-Tinsley is an excellent narrator that really gets into the characters and brings them to life. She does a great job getting the voices distinct. There was a little bit of background noise, but nothing I found distracting. This is an honest and voluntary review of an ARC
