Publisher's Summary

Mathilda Honeycutt, SuperWitch, Prophesied Savior of The World, has survived the first battle of the Supernatural War.

But before she can take a breath, she's deflecting spells from angry witches in her local Target, getting visits from the Federal Witches Agency, and even though she's wearing the perfect outfit, her meeting with the US government doesn't go too well.

What's a girl to do when she's got a war to plan, a world to save, and two gorgeous guys still in hot pursuit?

She gets on with it, accessorizing perfectly along the way. Even if she's deep in the dungeons of a vampire castle or visiting the faerie realm.

But Mathilda, her magical posse, and her hot guys, are racing against the clock.

The Dark Lord is rising, and they have to stop him.

Or the world as we know it will cease to exist.

The Rise of the Dark Lord

Book 2 is just as good if not better than the first. I loved the way it is written. We get deep and personal parts of Mathilda’s life in journal form. But we also get her everyday life.

The love triangle thing works itself out and I approve of the outcome. The twists and turns this book gives us really made me enjoy it all the more.

Mathilda might not have wanted the position she was put into but she really knows what she is talking about. How people stop and listen to her even if they don’t agree with everything she says. She makes a great ally.

I am kind of sad there are only 2 books, I want more.

Loved the narration Susannah always give each character a unique voice and it brings the story that much more I just loved it.

Too slow...same old story

I own almost every Kristen Ashley book. Normally, I love everything she writes. This series is just okay but the main character and the “two guy plot” of the first two books gets SO TIRED very quickly. The plot is not as developed as other series. The best that this author has written are the Burg, Colorado Mountain and the ghost series. My faves are Fairy Tale Comes Alive and Penmort Castle. Maybe this one will get better... I bought it so I am forcing myself to finish it.... ((sigh))

Not My Favorite

While I LOVE this author, this series is not my favorite. Still, this was a fun listen!

Sadly, not a favorite

Kristen Ashley is an automatic download for me. I have loved her novels for years and she almost always gets a solid 5 stars. Unfortunately, this series is my least favorite of all her many series. There were parts of it I really liked because I am a huge fan of the paranormal, plus there were twists and turns and not much was predictable (thank you Kristen for not writing stories that are predictable).

On the negative, IMO, was the heroine - her character GRATED on my nerves, constantly. She was supposed to be 34 y/o but she was written and acted like she was 17. Plus, all the added exclamations of "yippy", "gah", "yay", "teehee", and "blah" were too much and made me cringe. A few exclamations used during the story are fine, but all the time? No. Plus she argued,, but not intelligently. It was always "are too", "am not", "are too", "am not". Boring. Add to that the performance by Susannah Jones whose voice often felt like screeching to my ears, especially when voicing all of the damn exclamations - it was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Finally, its written in the format of a journal - like a teenager journal - with chapters being sequencial journal entries. This wasn't too bad, but not great either because sentences were shortened like a journal would be, and resulted in all the weird phrasing.

So, put it together and I can say I am disappointed with this series. Again, love the paranormal setting and all the various characters that belonged to the paranormal world who had their own stories. And I forgot to say I loved the male lead and main love interest? My God, he was divine - to use a repeated high-pitched phrase from the book, "yay"! But the reader, and Matilda (lead hero) were, again to use a repeated phrase from the book, "blah."

Magical adventures!

I’m a long time Kristen Ashley fan but had never read the first Book in this series. Just finished both in two days and wow - what a treat. I absolutely loved Matilda. KA has such a way of bringing life her characters and building worlds where readers want to go and stay! This two book series was no different. Yes it’s magical but Kristen Ashley has a way of creating a believable universe regardless of the genre. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

As fabulous as Book 1!

We're leaving the same review for Book 2 as we did for the first book since we finished the duology prior to writing any review. What we said for Book 1 still stands.

The heroine said “ack” a million-bazillion times! It’s the only part of the story that drove me nuts. The rest was absolutely brilliant!

There is a HUGE cast in this book, yet the story never gets confusing as to who is doing what or why. The narrator did a good job of keeping everyone straight so you could always tell who was 'speaking'.

The heroine got a few side-eyes from us when her love of fashion seemed to overrule her common sense, but the story always recovered. Thankfully! Lots of family, friends, action, suspense, magic and, yes, laughter. Great book, and great series!

Great follow up

My full review for both books can be found on the Mathilda, Superwitch (Mathilda's Book of Shadows 1) by Kristen Ashley page. But the gist of it is that I'm glad I took the time to listen!

Better than the first

I enjoyed the audible version of this book much more than reading it, as the narrator added so much enthusiasm and character tot he story. I liked "her" Mathilda MUCH more than the way Mathilda read in my head. This story also flowed much better for me than book one, and the triangle was thankfully resolved fairly early on.

Fun, funny with a touch of magic

This was a fun Halloween read even if not spooky at all. We get not only witches, but a bunch of other magical paranormal beings, some of which form s@x cults 😳🥵😍 Matilda behaves, often, a bit juvenile but, that with all the banter and the preposterous dialogues make this book very funny. We also get some steam, FINALLY. But, in my opinion, it was a reverse harem missed opportunity here 😜
Susannah Jones narration was outstanding, as always she interprets the characters so well, we get immersed in the story.

Awesome

I loved the story and narration of this book. The characters and drama had me hooked from the first page. The levity and drama were nicely balanced and I was enthralled throughout the whole book. Awesome
