Publisher's summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as "A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand."

After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness - if, indeed, they can be saved.

Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal - and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny - to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all - she will need an army behind her...

Critic reviews

"[Julia] Whelan's ability to portray a large cast of characters, giving each a unique voice, is laudable. Each character is discernible from the rest — no matter their gender, age, or regional accent. Her soothing tone and even pacing keep the lengthy story moving for the listener. Overall, Whelan deftly presents another production worth listening to." —AudioFile Magazine

Infantile

The 1st book in this series was great. It took an entirely different spin on the apocalypse genre that was fresh and entertaining. The 2nd book didn’t mesh with the 1st. I actually had to go back and read a little of book 1 to try and remember where the characters were in the story. This 3rd book? The whole Light and Dark thing reads like a children’s fairy tail. I couldn’t even get past chapter 5. The book gets 2 stars overall because of the narrator.

Happy, happy, happy. A little too happy

It was a good ending to a trioligy, but I wish there was more. yes more. MORE death, more loss. Everything was happy, happy happy. Just my opinion.

Struggle Bus

Soooo the first book was just this unbelievable page turner. Then the second book came and it was like, “what?”. I didn’t even know if I wanted to listen to this installment, but my curiosity of the outcome won out. It wasn’t great, but way better than book 2. I gave the overall a 3 star, but the story a 4 because of all the potential. If you take out all the unnecessary dribble and add a bit of suspense and excitement from book 1 it would be a hit.

Just stop after book 2.

This book is garbage compared to the first 2. No growth of characters or anything. Couple battles. Couple more battles. Magic wins. The end.

Awesome!!

I started listening to the first book, and was hooked. The story line, the characters so well developed, the pain, joy, hope, sorrow, evil, goodness and finally LOVE, made this an exceptional tale. I found myself chuckling, gasping and wiping away tears as I journeyed with the cast of New Hope to the finish. The narration is SO well done! It greatly contributed to the utter enjoyment of this listening experiece, bringing the characters to vivid life! It certainly is well worth the listen!

Finished too quickly

Thoroughly enjoyed this set of 3 book you have to start with the 1st edition and it still finished too quickly. Nora Roberts is a lovely writer

Great listen….

The recording itself skipped in a few places, which was pretty irritating, but I just couldn’t put the ‘book’ down. The Narrator brought the story to life - enjoyed the whole series. What next..?

Good Conclusion

I enjoyed this series, book 2 was my favourite and while book 3 was good I felt they could have gone into a few more stories of other characters.
