The Response launches us into a terrifying biblical prophecy. It introduces Devin Kerry, a brilliant entomologist confronted with a global uprising of twenty quadrillion ants. With insect swarms devastating our cities and populations, and our scientists and military powerless to stop them, Devin discovers the attacks have been triggered by a NASA launch eight years earlier, setting the stage for humanity’s greatest battle against the fiercest creature on Earth.
Enjoy the ride while preparing yourself for Book Two, From the Void.
Gary Naiman has written nineteen novels. The Response and From the Void are being considered for a television series.
Amazon reviews . . .
"The story drew me in from the first page. It starts in the Cold War era where I felt the tension and worry with Alexei and Mikhail as it steadily transitions into modern day. Devin's introduction into the story was smooth, uninterrupted and fun as it depicts his personality, his life as a family man as well as his passionate expertise as an entomologist. What follows is a series of mass panic and literal swarms of terror beating at everyone's window from the sky and ground. A read that takes you by storm while fighting off crawling and stinging horrors. This has the potential of hitting cinematic screens. I know people have attempted insect horror films, some of them are good in my opinion, but this really made my heart race with excitement, intrigue, suspense and fear." (S.V. Claybaugh 12/11/25)
“This book takes a different stance to the alien invasion stories and is all the better for it. The non-stop action from start to finish leaves you wanting to read the next book in the series without delay.” (Alan 1/31/24-Goodreads)
"I enjoyed this book for its imagination and good storytelling. This tale reminds me at times of the old 1950’s horror movies with a modern and believable twist. I look forward to reading the next book." Well done! (Gerald Dunn 2/26/25)
"Had me glued to the page from the very first chapter. The premise – a global ant uprising triggered by an interstellar signal – is utterly chilling. Naiman doesn't shy away from the gruesome details, painting a vivid picture of humanity's desperate struggle against an overwhelming enemy. What really sets this book apart is how it explores the interconnectedness of all life. We humans, in our arrogance, have underestimated the intelligence and resilience of these tiny creatures. The Response serves as a stark reminder of our place in the natural order and the potential consequences of our actions. It's a thrilling and thought-provoking read that will stay with you long after you turn the final page." (Ryleigh Jones 12/13/24)
This is the second book I've read from this author. An amazing idea and it's executed so well. The idea of such an attack is horrifying, and the author makes it feel so real. It's definitely the best science fiction thriller I've read in a long time. If you like something that will scare and intrigue you, I recommend you read this book (SURESHOT 10/1/24)
"The Response delivers a unique and terrifying twist on sci-fi horror. The idea of ants receiving an interstellar signal to annihilate humanity is both original and spine-chilling. the author masterfully weaves suspense and action, making this book a gripping read from start to finish. The detailed portrayal of the insect world taking over adds an unsettling realism that makes you question our dominance as a species. If you're into sci-fi creature stories with a plot twist, this one will definitely keep you on edge." (MF 10/24 Germany)
