Excellent book with a powerful personal narrative

First some background, I purchased the book via a Kickstarter campaign and I know the author personally since we are both financial and life planners.

The book is well worth reading or listening per your preference. It combines a strong personal narrative with a deep dive into research and the field of resilience.

I was especially struck by how Cady traces her early career decisions to trauma in her youth. I have seen how trauma can lead to various negative outcomes but hadn't thought nearly as much about how it can cause a negative outcome via too much work and success. Cady follows the threads from some very difficult personal experiences growing up though her decision to overwork and over-focus on corporate success. Eventually, she realized what was going on and took action to giver herself permission to accomplish less and realize that accomplishment isn't the same as a person's worth. I think everyone should work more on that question no matter their self-assessed level of achievement.

If you have experienced trauma and/or need help leaving corporate work, this book may be just what you need. I found it inspiring and I bet others will too. Cady's has overcome very difficult circumstances (parents who drank to the extent that they left her to care for her sibling) and her story of how she did the inner work is a great example of how to do it. But she doesn't stop there, she surveys best practices and work of practitioners, academics, and more.

The book includes discussion questions, suggested activities to help implement the ideas, and a broad range of topics for consideration.

The author reads the book herself and it feels right since parts are very personal. Her delivery is smooth and thoughtful and I enjoyed it more than professionally-read books since it had the polish of those but with less sterility.

NB: I purchased the Kickstarter version of this book and received the audiobook gratis.
