Publisher's summary

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming, and resourceful, and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky.

In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odor.

In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. Never before has a tale of three likeable and unfortunate children been quite so enchanting, or quite so uproariously unhappy.

Wicked Fun

Loved book 2 in this series. I love how the story starts so happily and quickly turns dark. The children can tell Count Olaf is up to his old tricks, but the other characters have blinders on. Loved how Sunny's character develops and hearing her say real words. Such a fun relationship between Sunny and the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Looking forward to book 3!

Tim Curry is amazing

Love Curry's character voices and interpretation. He really fits the tone of the book. It's the only audiobook series where I've never found the reader annoying or distracting. Quite the opposite: I couldn't read the books now without hearing Curry's voice in my head! So good.

Great story, horrible acting

The story was interesting but the voices were load and annoying. I listen to audio books to relax but the acting is quite annoying.

loved it

I remember reading this as a kid and I am so happy to share it with my son now. I really like the narrator and the story is quirky and interesting as usual.

Another masterpiece by lemony Snicket!

I would recommend this book to any child who loves lemony Snicket other work, or of course, to any grown up Who loves reading really good riding intended for children. It’s also a great book for opening up a dialogue between grownups in children about some of the satyr things that kids have to experience, such as the death of A beloved relative. On one hand, some of the things that happened in this book are very sad. But on the other, there was enough comedy and action and creativeness, and the sense that good people can out wit villains, that the book itself isn’t said overall. One very small point Dash – a lot of the audio recording us here on Audible have some of the music, created by lemony Snicket himself, cut out, but this one how’s his songs at beginning and end in tact. Enjoy!
