Michael and Abigail are both complicated and very independent, and makes for a good match. These characters were really fun to listen to.
This is chock full of steamy romance, thrills, mystery, intrigue, history, with a splash of paranormal.
Makes for an exciting listen!
Very well-written steamy romance and loved the narration, all in all a great story, enjoyed it :)

Romance at its steamiest is at the heart of this Regency book. The heroine is supposed to be an ingenue, but in fact she knows more about the erotic side of love that she dares to show. What she doesn't know, Lord Michael Sutherland is more than willing to teach her. The darkness of the period is represented not only by a willingness to murder at will in pursuit of dark magic powers, but also by the depravity of sexual practices performed by piers of society. The plot to uncover the secrets of a string of murders and attacks on the protagonists has some suspenseful moments and is interesting enough. The writing is pleasant and the interpretation by the narrator very well performed. A good Regency romance with all the twists and turns we expect in the mysteries genre.

The story started of quite mysterious and wicked. I thought it would be revealed why things happened and whether there was any reasoning as to why it happened the way it did. Did this magic work or not. We shall never know.
I'm frankly disappointed.
Disappointed

As our story starts Michael has won a country estate in a game of cards, on arrival at Blagdon Hall, he finds it to be very rundown, with only two elderly servants a resident ghost and Abigail Barrows in residence. The estate passed to her cousin on the death of her parents and now that it belongs to Michael Abigale has to leave her home and go and stay with her step-sister and her husband at the neighboring estate. Michael feels bad about this as the reputations of her relatives are nefarious.
The following evening he accepts an invitation to dinner at the neighbouring Hall and finds that Abigale is being pursued by her brother in law, Michael wants to help her but just by being alone with her, even though they are only talking, her reputation would be ruined. The person Michael won Blagdon from is also a guest at the house and whilst Michael is alone with Abigale he is murdered, Michael becomes the prime suspect his only way to avoid the hangman's noose is for Abigale to be his alibi which would mean the ruination of her reputation.
So follows a hasty marriage, encounters with the Hall's resident ghost, several murdered/missing girls together with several attempts on Michael's life. All these things are linked to Abigale's family, antique artifacts, and human sacrifices. As this is the second book in the series, all of the main characters from the first are included, so we get to catch up with Rhys and Emmy, Emmy's sister Larissa and Spencer. Spencer's character played an important part and I look forward to listening to his story, hopefully next or soon.
The historical accuracy/descriptions are very good, the characters become more developed but the book did rely a lot on the sexual side of Michael's relationship with Abigale so bear this in mind when thinking about buying this book. That said the storyline, is exciting and dramatic, if somewhat dark, the sex scenes sizzle and the chemistry is hot.
I particularly enjoyed the narration by Lillian Yves, she did an incredible job of bringing every character to life, all the voices were different but recognizable and for me she made this particular book a joy to listen to.
I was given a copy of this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.
