Publisher's summary

Wyatt's life was not destined to be simple or peaceful. Raised as an orphan by an aunt, he never knew either his mother or his famous gunfighter father. When his aunt dies, Wyatt is run off by her brutal husband and eventually taken in by a rancher and his family. During his teens, he sets out to avenge the wrongs done to him and his kin, ultimately hooking up with some highway men and starting his life as a gunfighter - the Rattlesnake Kid.

Running from the law he ends up in Mexico, where bounty hunters track him and his gang down. A snake’s rattle is the only warning they receive that they are in danger and a gunfight is imminent. After narrowly escaping that ambush, he and his gang soon must deal with crooked lawmen who want his new family’s land and target them to draw him out.

Enjoyable Western Story

I enjoy a good western, and The Rattlesnake Kid was a fun story with all the murder and mayhem that is expected of the genre. The formulaic western story was well written, and the main narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. I wasn't expecting a female voice to appear in the narration, so that was a little startling at first. However, I quickly got used to her and she did a great job as well, especially with the Mexican accent.

Overall, I would recommend this audio book to any fan of classic westerns.

Horrendous Narrations

This book had great potential! The story was exciting and well written. The Narrators were reading like they were talking to a 3rd grader.

Fun Western in the spirit of Louis L'Amour

Great story in the beginning! I thought the character development and plot was very unique. It gets a little difficult towards the end with the main character being so young. The main narrator was fabulous! The female narrator was a little distracting as she was a bit monotone when she was doing the English parts. Her Mexican accent was actually better.

This book reminded me a little bit of my favorite author as a kid, Louis L'Amour. I would certainly listen to another book by the narrator, possibly another book by this author.

Revenge is sweet!

Great tale. The Kid is like Rocky in western duds! Narration is sweet and the story is hard to put down. Burned through it in a day. This might as well have been be a Clint Eastwood, Josie Wales prequel.

corruption and revenge

I empathized with the rattlesnake kid for all the abuses he never deserved. The ending of the story was worth all the tragedy that preceded it. The revenge/karma was very satisfying. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life

Rata-tat-tattle snake kid

When a rattlesnake Slithers in the town, you better be careful. When the rattlesnake kid saunters is in the town, you better watch out.

I came here to write this review and saw somebody actually say that the narration was like somebody was speaking to them as if they were a third grader. That’s malarkey take three minutes and listen to the narration as a sample you’ll see that it’s clear and they do voices with accents and different intonation so on and so forth and they tell a very nice neat crisp story. The only thing that I really felt it was out of place with the narration was that it seemed that the pair kind of shoehorned in their dialogue in the editing system. It just sounded a little Clipped.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I think it was an excellent. Western and I look forward to hearing more by Philip McCormick.
