Publisher's summary

Of all Bruce's elite warriors, Robert "Raider" Boyd is the most formidable. A true patriot whose bare hands are a deadly weapon, Robbie is the fierce enforcer of the Guard, and his hatred of the English has been honed to a razor-sharp edge. But vengeance proves bittersweet when his enemy's beautiful sister falls into his hands and he finds himself fighting temptation-a battle he badly wants to lose. Lady Rosalin Clifford barely recognizes the rebel prisoner she saved from execution six years ago.

Though her girlish ideals for fairness have matured into a passion for justice, Rosalin believes she betrayed her brother when she helped this dangerous man escape. Now her traitorous act has come back to haunt her. But she can't deny the longing this tormented warrior ignites in her, or deny the passion that turns sworn enemies into lovers. Is the gentle love of a true English rose enough to free Scotland's most brutal warrior from a path of vengeance-before it's too late?

Excellent

I love the way the author lets you hear the heroes thoughts and the heroines thoughts during the scenes. The story was well done and the historical setting was fascinating to me. I loved the way that the good and the bad side of the hero was portrayed. You almost lose hope for him but in the end love wins. The romance was beautiful and the sex scenes were well written and passionate.

The Patriot and The Englishwoman

Sir Robert Boyd, one of the most famous Patriots of Scottish History and hater of all things English. Enter Lady Rosalin Clifford and a great love story begins. Can enemies find love in the midst of war. Hang onto your seat for the story that unfolds. The overall story of Robert the Bruce and his bid for king and Scotlands Independence continues. The years are 1310 to 1312, the border townships are suffering, being attacked by English and Scott's.
When these two meet fireworks fo off! Great adventure and Great love story. Great characters and a great love story as the first war for Scotlands Independence. I love Monica McCarthy. The mix of true historical facts with some minor name changes and twists, makes reading the books interesting and enjoyable. I love Scottish History especially the First War of Independence for Scotland. Robert the Bruce is a fascinating person in history and his story is one for the ages. Her introduction to a Highland Guard that acts like one of the first special forces is so entertaining. It is so believable that it makes me want to go back in time to see for myself.

Balanced on views of both sides

What I felt was unique about this story in the series is how you really see how both sides did good and bad things. Characters come to realize the world is more grey than black and white.

Maybe favorite so far?

What made the experience of listening to The Raider the most enjoyable?

I've been tearing through this series, and I really think The Raider has been one of my favorites. The plot is different than many of the others, and it focuses on a different area.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Robby Boyd is very compelling, a historical figure imbued with fictional (albeit enjoyable) endowments that make him a great romantic hero.

Have you listened to any of Antony Ferguson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all of the Highland Guard series. I have to admit, I miss Robert McNab a bit, as some of the Gaelic words are pronounced differently, and that is a bit jarring. I am adjusting though, and Antony gives a good performance.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The strongest man in Scotland had one weakness- her.

Any additional comments?

This series sneaks up on you. I am coming from Outlander, not just romance novels, so I like the history stuff. I am really enjoying the series and dread finishing it soon.

Exciting historical romance.

I love reading or listening to a book when the author mixes true historical facts and their own works together, creating an epic journey into the past. This author wrote an outstanding and truly romantic story, filled with passion and a tall, wild Scotsman. I loved this story of Robby Boyd. I definitely have become attached to this author's style and look forward to enjoying many more books by her. A must read!!!

HOT HOT HOT

What made the experience of listening to The Raider the most enjoyable?

How can you not love a story of a strong alpha male who is won over by the sister of his enemy? He is brought back to a life of love by her. He no longer sees her as "English" but rather as the woman he can't live without

Have you listened to any of Antony Ferguson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love his accent. He does the accent for the men so well!!! Many authors can't do a nice Scottish accent

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and cried in parts. This makes it one of the best books written

Day Dreaming about Highlanders!

Where does The Raider rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's in the top 5 for sure!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Raider?

No spoiler here, but the sizzle between Boyd and Rosalin is great! I loved this book, it's an easy and fun read all the way through! Great stuff!

Which scene was your favorite?

Again, no spoilers here, buuut we all know there's a love scene in these books and in this one, they NEVER disappoint!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't laugh or cry, but I did day dreamed about a fictional Highlander all day! It made me feel dreamy and I sighed a lot throughout this book. The "I wish I were Rosalin" kind of sigh. It's a great book! Antony Ferguson's highlander voice is so hot!

The Raider: Highland Guard, Book 8

What did you love best about The Raider?

That love found a way for the Hero and Heroine despite some very bad odds.

What other book might you compare The Raider to and why?

The first 7 books in this series are very similar as the stories are connected. I enjoyed all 8 books in this series.

What does Antony Ferguson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love hearing the accent. It makes the story seems more realistic as it is set in Scotland/England area.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Despite unsurmountable odds, loves finds a way!

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It is very well written although there is a bit too much history regarding the battles for me but I understand that is the way this author is doing this series.

Just wish there was more

My biggest complaint with all of these books is that I wish there was more story of the couples life together. I guess I am spoiled by the Outlander series. I just want to experience more of the goodness after the struggle they endured to forge their union.
