Publisher's summary

A small girl brings Joe Gunther a bird's nest - made partially of human hair. In the search to match a body - and an identity - to the hair's owner, Joe comes across an unexplained death, a grisly murder, and a sudden disappearance. All seem to be entangled in a puzzling web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and industrial espionage. A shell-shocked World War II veteran nicknamed the Ragman may hold the key to it all - but only if Joe can get him to talk before the murderer strikes again.

What a Great story!

This story left you guessing all the way to the end! When you find out who the bad guys will be surprised! Joe always takes a beating and keeps going! It was Awesome as a Nurses Aide to patients with dementia to see a man with dementia helped piece it all together. Gail really helped out with this one as well. All the innocent lives that were lost due to these corrupt people is insane. You will really enjoy this one! One of my favorite so far in the Joe Gunther series

Plus Catalog Gift

I must start this review by thanking Audible, once again, for providing additional titles at no cost with the Platinum membership. Just discovering Archer Mayor's Joe Gunther through the Plus Catalog has been a real joy. Novel after novel with the solid delivery by Tom Taylorson, I continue to enjoy Mr. Mayor's works.

From start to finish The Ragman's Memory is a pleasure to listen with the Taylorson gravel voice he has perfected as Joe Gunther. As a young girl provides Joe with a strand of hair from a bird's nest to discovering human bones in a dog's house, he is off to the races with another mystery murder to solve. With the usual cast of characters in the police force and Joe's now live in girlfriend Gail to assist, Joe moves through the puzzle before reaching a solid conclusion to this tale. Along the way, he must deal with the usual local politics and media that hamper and sometimes assist in his perseverance to solve a crime that now spreads as more lives are lost.

I have mentioned in other reviews that some authors have a tendency to get stale, and perhaps, a little lazy in keeping their novels fresh. Not so with Mr. Mayor as he continues to entertain story after story. With the great delivery by Tom Taylorson, I salute you both as I enter the next novel in my library to enjoy at some future date. Yes, dear reader, the novels are a bit dated so far, but you will not really notice or miss the so-called modern tech conveniences that are yet to come. Enjoy.

An elegant mystery

Well-written, astonishingly elegant, and still believable. Despite the fact that Mayor must be on the payroll for the Brattleboro Board of Anti-Tourism, his sense of place is deeply soulful--full of understanding and acceptance. I hope to see Joe Gunther end up as one of the greats in the annals of crime fiction.

I love willie!

I know he’s an ornery character, but he makes me laugh. Love this guy! Good book.

Most boring book on audible.

The narration is excellent, no problem there I feel bad writing this, but I kept going and going hoping the story would get interesting. When I finally gave up, I was 10 hours in and realised there was literally no time left for any more action or plot development. My advice, give it a miss.
