Publisher's summary

This is the story of two brothers who are caught in an attack on their home by a Demon Lord and his vast army of goblins, winged flyers, and towering brutes. Chaant, the younger brother, is a mage while Ky'el is a skilled warrior.

As the citizens shelter from the onslaught behind the great wall that encircles their home of Almarra, Chaant must venture out on a quest to find and serve a wizard so he can earn a powerful enchantment with which to help his people. Chaant is joined in his travels by the mysterious Anjelica, a young woman with hidden powers that even she doesn’t fully understand.

While Chaant pursues his quest, Ky'el joins an elite group of warriors led by Olan, a veteran warrior and his mentor, with the goal of protecting Almarra from the demon hoard and delaying the inevitable collapse of their wall.

This is Robert A. Valle’s second work of fiction. He enjoys taking listeners on journeys of the imagination to new worlds and places. His first book was The Secret of Tibesti Massif.

Great find! LOTR meets Harry Potter.

Was looking for a sword and fantasy, LOTR, Harry Potter etc. when I stumbled across this gem!

Fun, action-packed and with heart, I was both enthralled with the actions scenes and fell in love with the characters. The narration was also excellent, the narrator really brought out the heart by creating separate characters and molding his voice around the action of the story.

Cannot wait for the sequel and would absolutely recommend to anyone who’s looking for a fun and exciting world full of demons, warriors, magic and mages, you will be very pleased.

An intriguing and satisfying quest

This is an exciting tale of two brothers – one is a mage and the other is a skilled warrior – both are caught in a fierce struggle with a dark lord and his army. Together, the two brothers must find a way to defeat the dark lord and save their village. The young mage, Chaant, along with a mysterious woman who has just as mysterious powers seek out a powerful enchantment in which to help defeat the dark lord. Ky’el slips under the wall with other warriors to try to eliminate as many of the dark lords’ army as possible.

Filled with magic, mystery, and adventure this is one of those rare audiobooks that will capture the listener's imagination. Just when you think the end is near, the author, Robert Valle, throws in a twist. The plot flows smoothly, and the plot twists are well done.

Each character is well developed fits perfectly into the story. The dialog is well developed and authentic. I enjoyed the dialog between Chaant and Anjelica as they learn about her mysterious powers. Plus, I enjoyed seeing how thoughtful and sensitive Chaant was at the end. Chaant’s growth as a character is very clear and indicative of his nature in the book. The same can be said of Ky’el’s growth.

The narrator, Luke deMaine gave a solid performance. His voices were clear and representative of each character’s personality. He was articulate and clear with a cadence that drew the listener in. I have not had the pleasure of hearing deMaine before but look forward to more of his performances.

This is a creative book filled with suspenseful moments and well-written. I look forward to the next book!

The audio production and quality of this book were clear and well done except for a couple of sentences being repeated.
