Publisher's Summary

Wilbur Smith returns with the eagerly awaited sequel to his thrilling Egyptian series.

Following on from River God, The Seventh Scroll and Warlock, The Quest continues the story of the Warlock, Taita, wise in the lore of the ancient Gods and a master of magic and the supernatural.

Egypt is struck by a series of terrible plagues that cripple the Kingdom, and then the ultimate disaster follows. The Nile fails.

The waters that nourish and sustain the land dry up. Something catastrophic is taking place in the distant and totally unexplored depths of Africa from where the mighty river springs.

In desperation Pharoah sends for Taita, the only man who might be able to win through to the source of the Nile and discover the cause of all their woes.

None of them can have any idea of what a terrible enemy lies in ambush for The Warlock in those mysterious lands at the end of their world.

Too much sorcery for my taste. After River God and Desert God it was a disapointment

A story of sorcery, mysticism and rebirth.

The quest is a story of sorcery, mysticism and rebirth. Taita sets out on a quest with Meren, to restore the flow of water to the Nile and end the evil sorcery of evil sorceress Eos and her minion Soe. With great narration by Simon Vance, this book is hard to put down.

Disappointing all round.

It's been all down hill since the excellent first one of the series. I am not going to bother with the next one.

long book.

the narrator did well but I found Smith's endless discriptions very long winded in this book.

Only if you've read the rest of the series

What did you like most about The Quest?

Typical of the quality we've come to expect of Wilbur Smith

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Quest?

The 'capture' of Fyn/Finn?

Did Simon Vance do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Yes, tone and characterisation

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, I was captivated throughout.

Any additional comments?

I don't think this book will be quite as engaging as a stand alone story, it's enriched by its predecessors and the depth of the characters that feature in all.

Shocked

What disappointed you about The Quest?

this is not the Wilbur Smith type of story I have ever read.Too say the least I will be returning it

What could Wilbur Smith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

dumfounded

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Simon Vance?

no problem with the story teller

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Quest?

scrapped the story

Any additional comments?

So disappointed
