Publisher's summary

A psychopathic killer is stalking the women of Sydney.

Federal Agent Clayton Munro, a criminal profiler with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), has been called upon to assist in hunting down a vicious murderer who is intent upon carving up his victims while they are still alive. Guilt-stricken over his wife's suicide, Clayton is forced to set aside his personal issues in order to focus on the case.

Detective Ellie Cooper is also no stranger to heartache. Pregnant and abandoned at the altar by a fiancé intent on pursuing a career with the AFP, her opinion of the elite body of officers is anything but favorable. Angered when her boss orders her to partner with the fed, she is determined not to cut him any slack.

But women are dying on the streets of western Sydney and the pressure is mounting to find the person responsible.

Will Clayton and Ellie be able to put aside their animosity and work together to catch a killer before it's too late? And what about the special fascination the killer seems to have with Ellie?

Romance

I love the romance mixed with the mystery. The violence is hard to take, but the book is very good.

Pretty good

3/5 stars. I liked the murder mystery, but readers should be warned that the violence is pretty graphic. The romance is maybe 10 per cent of the story.

A new author to me, but one who's work I really enjoyed.

A fast paced suspense with a lovely mix of romance and intrigue. Loved it and look forward to book two.

Aussie point of view

I enjoyed the aspect that this book took place in Australia, and the use of the vocabulary used in that part of the world, but I did miss out on the accent.
A few observations and things I tired of quickly.repeated use of some verbs and adjectives...sorry I expect more of an author that is receiving this much hype. I also found it sad that the part of the book that was best written was the sexual encounter... I would expect the same level of description throughout the book...wonder how long I'll be pending on this review?

I just cant get into this book DNF after 3 hours.

Hmmm. Sad to say I just couldn't get into this book. It was just boring and seemed all over the place to me. I listened for 3 hours and I give up. Sorry, this is not a very helpful review. Just not for me I guess.

As for the narration, he does a well enough job. Not the worst, not the best either.

This was a free book on amazon and 1.99 listen. Oh well.

Not quite 4 stars for the story..

This was a pretty good mystery. I liked Clayton and Ellie BUT I thought it was rather stupid that she didn’t want anyone to know about the death of her son. AND, like soooo many other stories, he wasn’t ready to let go of the wife that committed suicide 3 years ago. He kept telling himself, like soooo many others’ that he couldn’t feel anything for Ellie because he still loved his dead wife, maybe. Really? Haven’t authors written that to death?

Anyway, I liked this book, and I liked the sexual attraction that went on between Clayton and Ellie. They were trying to solve the murders and trying also to keep their minds off each other all the time.

That said, I didn’t like the prologue at all. When it involves an adult being mean and hateful to a kid, and you just know he’s going to get a beating, I can’t wait to finish reading that part. Yeah, and I want that adult dead, I admit it. And, of course, you knew that the abused kid was the serial killer. And what he did to those women was just horrible and gross. BUT, I could put up with all that if the book is well written. What I can’t put up with is when the author tries to make the story like real life and throws in disgusting stuff. I don’t know how many heroines I’ve read about that had gotten taken by the bad guy and she suffered with cuts and bruises and a broken bone or two, BUT I have never read about a heroine tied to a table and actually PEED on herself and the bad guy screeched at her about it. Seriously? Was that necessary? Because that was something I couldn’t unread. I don’t EVER want to read about another heroine PEEING on herself again. Another word I’m going to have to do a search for on my iPad in the future. Right along with SNOT. Another disgusting word authors are using too often. Unless that word is used in conjunction with a toddler I don’t want to see it in a book either. I do not want to read about a heroine crying on a hero’s chest and getting snot all over his shirt. YUCK!!!

As I said, there was plenty of sexual attraction throughout the book and a nice sex scene. There was some swearing and the F-bomb was used 28 times.

As to the narrator: He was very good. He sounded just like a woman when needed and cried hysterically like a woman too. He read with emotion and has a great reading voice. I’ve listened to Aiden Snow a couple of times and enjoyed him each time. The ONLY thing wrong with the narration was that the story was set in Australia but there wasn’t one single Australian accent to be heard. The closest we got to Australia was the 25 or so times that the word “mate” was used.

The Profiler

This was my first Chris Taylor book but definitely not my last. There was plenty of action, drama, suspense and romance. Narration by Aiden Snow was perfect as always. His deep sexy voice adds the perfect touch to this already great book. HEA and no cliffhanger.
