Publisher's Summary

A BBC Radio drama based on P. D. James’ best-selling novel, starring Richard Derrington and Deborah McAndrew.

In the 17th century, a witch is burned in a stone circle. Three hundred and fifty years later, an investigative journalist arrives at a nearby clinic to have cosmetic surgery - and a week later, she is dead.

Dalgliesh and his team, called in to investigate the murder and later a second equally horrific death, find themselves confronted with problems even more complicated than the question of innocence or guilt.

Family secrets, witchcraft, illegitimacy and the connections between past and present all come to the fore in this gripping, fast-paced adaptation of P. D. James’ acclaimed novel, starring Richard Derrington as Adam Dalgliesh, Deborah McAndrew as Kate Miskin and with Carolyn Pickles as Emma Lavenham.

Dramatised! Ruined if you ask me.

My imagination works just fine without messing with P.D. James' writing. I don't need nor want my books "dramatized".

an enjoyable listen

I liked this audible book with its easy to listen narrating, typical of a British radio series. Excellent sound quality and a 'good who done it'. A good buy for a working mother. You can get a couple of chapters in while cooking dinner and not too seat gripping that you want to yell at the kids to get to bed quickly.

Dalgleish challenged!

I found this an absorbing read. The twists and turns n pursuit of the killer was dramatic PD James at her best and most devious.
