Welcome to Layton, Alabama. Population: 11,000. Where the sweet tea runs through our veins, the air smells of cobbler, and the secrets lie so deep that not even the confessionals are safe anymore.

My name is Sunny Gardner, and at the age of seventeen, my mother is on her third husband. He’s the preacher. But this time, there is something very strange. Something dark and evil taking up residence in our small town of Layton. And it has everything to do with my stepfather.

They say evil takes many forms. But nobody in Layton, Alabama could possibly have been prepared for Avery Dawson, who preaches the Word, but lives a life of secrets and lies.

This is my story. A story of struggle, triumph, and, ultimately, a story of how I saved myself and my community from the devil himself.

ADULT CONTENT: 18+. Some profanity.

What an intriguing read for someone who was raised under the southern Baptist shadow. I loved how the characters were portrayed, especially Avery Dawson, as well as the operation of the church itself. There were times that I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened and hoping for resolution. As I listened to this book I enjoyed the dual narration. I felt like both narrators really contributed to the story!
