A story that draws you in

I have to state up front that I had trouble understanding the narrator for this book. She had such a whispering, emotionally filled voice that at times I could not decipher what she was saying. I kept stopping and thinking that I would give up and return the book but the story just kept drawing me back. The message was positive, the characters well developed and believable and in the end I was won over. The themes of rebuilding and self discovery were strong. I'm glad I stuck with it and finished the book--the story was worth it and to me that's what really matters.

Hard to understand

There were times that the narration was hard to understand. I appreciate the narrator trying to make each character authentic and different but there were huge sections that were just incomprehensible.

i loved the details of this story. and will seeknout others by thus author. the narrator's voice was pleasant, just a little difficult to understand an accent she used for one character.

Lisa Wingate’s books are excellent. The story ends in away a reader never expected. The intensity of her books makes it almost impossible to stop listening to.

A refuge for a troubled soul

This story brought the Sea Islands to life for me! The life of the woman who put her private thoughts and prayers into scraps of paper was an inspiration. As I listened to the narrator Xe Sands expertly weave the emotional journey of Eyola Poole as she dedicated her life to the good of the home she struggled to save my eyes teared . We should all keep the deep philosophical lessons that Lisa Wingate gifted us with in our hearts forever
