Practice makes perfect...or so she thought.

Nobody likes Cody Matthews, including Cody Matthews. And why should they? He got his high school girlfriend pregnant, and then almost killed them both while driving drunk. That's why he's perfect for Hannah. She'd never fall for someone like him.

Hannah Stark is a high school senior with a resume of straight A's. She's never stepped a toe out of line. But that's also why she's never had a boyfriend. While all her classmates are counting down the days until graduation, Hannah is dragging her feet. She can't believe she'll be leaving her adolescence behind without ever taking a chance to be wild and free. That's why she's set her sights on Harrison.

Harrison Cohl is everything Hannah wants to be. Gorgeous, wealthy, popular, and wild. He's also notorious for the legendary masquerade ball he throws every year. And this year, Hannah is determined to be invited. And have Harrison as her date.

Hannah's plan is crazy. But she's convinced she just needs a little practice to make her high school...perfect.

A fun, fast, YA romance that you won't be able to pause. Perfect for fans of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars.

Hooked me from the first line

I really enjoyed this book. It may be short on length, but not on content. There was a lot of story and I loved the characters.
Parts of it, I expected, but there were quite a few surprises that I never saw coming.
I really wish there was more story at the end. I could have gone on listening to another 4 hours.

I received this book as a gift and my review is honest and voluntary.

Great Teen to Adult story

I loved this. The idea of smart Hannah getting Cody to teach her how to live in the real world outside of books is awesome. I really enjoyed the sweet romance. Everything between Hannah and Cody was great and then you add in the drama that Harrison brings and you have a really compelling story. Catherine did such an amazing job narrating that I hardly noticed that I was listening to a book and it was more like I had a movie playing in my head.

Interesting take on today’s teens & pressure

This book was an interesting take on today’s teens and the pressures they deal with daily.

Hannah is a straight A high school student at an upper-class private school who spends all of her time studying and playing tennis - she’s at the top of her age category. She’s never had time for a boyfriend, nor has she ever really wanted one. Now it’s close to the end of her senior year and while she’s trying to write her Valedictorian speech she’s realizing that while everyone else has been making memories, she’s really got none to take with her to college, and now she’s desperate to make some. She sets her sights ridiculously high on being the date of the most popular & wealthy “golden” in school, Harris, to his infamous end of the year masquerade party. Unfortunately, Harris is a total asshole who makes the most for himself out of every situation, regardless of anyone else’s feelings, reputation or impacted life.

Cody Matthews’ fall in “golden” popularity happened overnight, when his was involved in a drunken car crash that killed his secretly pregnant girlfriend. He’s ostracized from not only the “goldens” but pretty much everyone in school. He’s spiraling into a drunken depressive life, and now Hannah as asked him for a favor that he can’t say no to, because she knows a secret about Cody that could ruin his future. How far will he go to help Hannah make the memories she so desires?

As Hannah is guided by Cody’s golden lessons, she gains new friends, and social status. She’s making memories left and right, including some with Cody, but are they the kind of memories she will want to remember?

Cody was my favorite character in this book and I actually wish his character development was expanded. All of the character dev could have been more thorough, because this book is fairly short and would’ve benefited from the details. Hannah was a bit too...whiney isn’t quite the word. Maybe too gullible & self centered for someone who is so smart, but maybe it’s just right for someone with no basic social skills. The bad kids were written fantastically bad, and I hated them from the start, which is what you want in villain types. There is a little bit of mature content, but this book is NOT loaded down with sexual content like some books are. It gives a look into the seedier, darker side of high school (& life) pressures which are definitely mature content.

I’ve marked the story as a 4 star rating, even though I think it’s a 3.5. I round up. If the characters had been flushed out more ithe story would’ve gotten a solid 4 stars from me. I would recommend it to someone that I know likes this genre of book.

The narration gets a 5, which Is always nice because a terrible narrator can ruin a great story. Good job, Catherine!

Kids Living Out Cruel Intentions

Hannah has been going to an elite high school on a scholarship but as school comes to an end she wants to experience more like being a part of the Golden group. She decides to blackmail Cody, an ex Golden who is rumored to have gotten his girlfriend pregnant and then while driving drunk caused her death.
Soon we find out Cody is a tortured soul, the Golden’s aren’t so Golden and the ideal experience Hannah thought she wanted isn’t true.
A YA story with lots of twists, evolving feelings, secrets and the cruelty of teenagers and also the redeeming of those hurt by cruelty.
Narration well done...I received a copy for a voluntary and honest review.

Solid Story with Decent Voice Acting

The Practice Boyfriend is a solid contemporary upper YA romance with the appropriate amount of sweetness and innocence, teen angst, and drama. I immediately connected with the main character. Outside of Hannah's tennis playing, I'm so not sporty, I identified with her academic pursuits at the sacrifice of a social life and her desire to make up for that. Her innocence and naivete also struck a chord with me and as events unfold, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing at that age (although at times she had me smacking my forehead with her actions).

Without giving too much away, Cody and his actions and attitude are spot on for the truths that are revealed over the course of the plot.

The Goldens, the upper echelon of high school cliques were definitely how I imagined some of the most popular people at my high school to be, maybe to an extreme, but I certainly believed in the possibility of all their antics being true as the story went on.

The story is easily consumed in one sitting, or maybe that's because I didn't want to have to stop it once I got started. I had to keep going to find out how everything would play out and if certain parties would get what they deserved.

The narrator for the audiobook wasn't my favorite (although far better than some others I have heard), I felt she fell flat in a few spots, but overall the characters and plot vastly carried me past any issues that could have created otherwise.

I've been a fan of Christina Benjamin's since her Geneva Project series, and I look forward to continuing on with this series in either print or audio format.

enjoyable read

First, Cody Matthews was a great guy. he actually was way too good for Hannah. Hannah was kinda unlikable. She is a manipulative, immature girl. In no way do her actions make me believe that she would somehow be the valedictorian. I didn't like her and it was really hard for me to really like her at all or see what Cody saw in her.

BUT- i still liked to book quite a bit. it has some suspense and i actually did not see everything that happened coming for most of the book. i would not recommend this book for younger readers as a lot of the themes are more adult than even HS.

The narration was great, easy to listen to.

i received a credit to buy this boo in order to give it an honest review, this is my honest review.

Not bad

I have not read anything by this author, so when I saw the description on this book, which I found interesting I thought I'll give it a go.
This is aimed at YA but some adults might like it to. It is not a bad book and a short listen. I wouldn't mind reading/listening to other books written by this author.

Sweet YA read with a bit of romance and mystery

3.75 Stars. This is a sweet YA read with a bit of romance and mystery. I enjoyed the characters and finished in one day. I would definitely check out other books by this Author. I listened to the audible version and thought the narrator did a great job.
