Publisher's Summary

In this, the first prose history in European civilization, Herodotus tells the heroic tale of the Greeks' resistance to the vast invading force assembled by Xerxes, King of Persia. This is great!

I am surprised at the low ratings for this history. I liked it so much that I listened to it many times before going on to the next book. The reading is impeccable, and the musical breaks are good.

I learned a lot about life in those early times...that it was tough, especially if your king got a notion in his head to go avenge some slight he had endured. This is about a battle that involved a million men on the Persian side alone! Imagine the logistics...
