Publisher's Summary

After spending the summer away from each other, Titus and Iolanthe (still disguised as Archer Fairfax) are eager to return to Eton College to resume their training to fight the Bane. Although no longer bound to Titus by blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny - especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.

Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that throws into question everything he believed about their mission. Faced with this revelation, Iolanthe struggles to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother's prophecies - or forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.

Sherry Thomas brings her trademark blend of dazzling magic, heartbreaking romance, and exciting action in this striking sequel to The Burning Sky.

I am not a fan of this format

This book is written with alternating chapters bouncing back and forth between the past and present. I might have liked it better if it had been a more straightforward account with just occasional flashbacks.

Too long to get to the point

really drawn out story to get to a climax that will apparently happen in another book
struggled to stay interested in the beginning and in fact put it down for several weeks

Better, but needs work

Hi there! This book was a good, quick listen. The plot in the second book, as opposed to the first, is better. The characters develop a little more smoothly. The ending is good. Overall it needs work, but it does have redeeming qualities.

That being said. The characters are very Mary sue and cliché. A lot of the writing seems like a beginner writer or something that a high school student wrote. Iolanthe, one of two main characters, bounces back and forth between good at everything and extremely unintelligent as it suits the writer. There is little to relate the reader to her. Titus has close to the same problem. The romance plot between the two of them is, in my opinion, poorly thought out and unrelateable due to its being complete unrealistic.

The narrator isn't bad. His accent fits well with the story line, he does a good job of narrating the different characters most of the time. He's not the best, but he's good. He does get words wrong every now and then, but not consistently.

Main point - would I recommend this book? If you're looking for a quick, easy listen that requires little to no active engagement then yes.

Pleasant for those who enjoy the genre

I've liked both books in this series so far. Don't expect a great novel but there is enough that's good here for me to have enjoyed it as light fare and I like the genre. Though the author isn't as deft with sexual innuendo as I'd have liked (particularly in this installment her main genre shows unpleasantly in interactions that seem very forced and inappropriate to the characters), overall there isn't enough of that to distract from the story too much. The narrator is fantastic! He differentiates voices without going overboard as too many of them do. I'll look for his narration again because he's so pleasant to listen to!

AWSOME BOOK 2!!

Wonderfully written! I was totally engrossed in the book again. The characters were so well fleshed out that even though I knew it was a fantasy, the characters and the story took me on a wonderful journey that I was loathe to leave. Now I NEED book 3.

Light Hearted and Fun - Need More Spunk

I was anxiously awaiting this sequel. It took me quiet a bit to get into the back and forward flow of the book and although it was somewhat predictable it was no less enjoyable. There were nice surprises, characters coming into their elements and some twists to the story. Book was lighthearted, fun and entertaining. Not sure that I could go through the flashing forward and back again.
