Publisher's Summary

The finale you've all been waiting for: The Penderwicks at Last is the final, flawless installment in the modern classic series from National Book Award winner and New York Times best-selling author Jeanne Birdsall!

Nine years, five older siblings, a few beloved dogs, and an endless array of adventures - these are the things that have shaped Lydia's journey since fans first met her in The Penderwicks in Spring.

Now, it's summertime, and 11-year-old Lydia is dancing at the bus stop, waiting for big sister, Batty, to get home from college.

This is a very important dance and a very important wait, because the two youngest sisters are about to arrive home to find out that the Penderwicks will all be returning to Arundel this summer, the place where it all began. And better still is the occasion: a good ol'-fashioned, homemade-by-Penderwicks wedding.

Bursting with heart and brimming with charm, this is a joyful, hilarious ode to the family we love best. And oh, my MOPS - Meeting of Penderwick Siblings, lest we ever forget - does Jeanne Birdsall's The Penderwicks at Last crescendo to one perfect Penderwick finale.

Critic Reviews

"Penderwick fans will be saddened yet satisfied by Susan Denaker's narration of the series' final book. The crispness of her narration conveys the old-fashioned feeling of the close-knit family's reminiscences..... Denaker's verve expresses the delight Lydia and her siblings find in even the smallest events." (AudioFile)

Another winner

A great last installment to a series which is one of my family's favorites. Both my boys and my girls enjoyed this series and were hooked on every word of each story. My daughter begged me to listen to them, and so I did, but she didn't have to beg me to listen after the first one I really loved them. I am a teacher at a classical school so I loved Mr. Penderwick's constant use of Latin and the emphasis on reading good books. Thanks to Birdsall for these brilliant family friendly stories with lots of laughs, tears and triumphs!

Love the book, not so much the narrator

The narrator should not attempt so many different voices, and it's pronounced Big PAH-pe, Red Sox legend. We know the Pelletier dad, Cagney, is a fan--remember Carla and Yaz named for Carl Yastrzemski? I'm sure he passed on the love to his son, who calls the sheep Big Papi for David Ortiz, another Red Sox slugger.

My 9-year-old's favorite series! Great characters.

My daughter listens to about two audiobooks each month, and she just finished a summer of listening to all five of the Penderwicks books. She enjoys the different personalities of each character and has loved listening to them "grow up" over the course of the five books. She is hoping Ms. Bridsall will write another book and in the meantime, she is listening to the books again (even as I write this). Highly recommend, especially if you happen to live in a family with several daughters. The Penderwicks have four girls (and then some by books 4 and 5) and the sibling relationships are endearing.

Sad to see the series end

My family and I have giggled our way through this series. Although the final two books were not quite as wonderful as the previous ones, we still loved listening to follow the adventures of our favorite family. Enjoy.

Great family series

This is a fun series for the whole family to listen to in the car. More appealing to the younger set, but good enough the adults enjoy it too.
